Hi again:
I have been trying configurations, and i couldn't make it working.
Please I need help! Responses will be very appreciated.
My computer configuration is:
-SB PCI 64 value
-Red Hat linux 6.0
-The kernel i'm using is 2.2.13. I compiled it with:
        [*] Amateur Radio support
        <*> Amateur Radio AX.25 Level 2 protocol
        <M> Soundcard modem driver
<*> soundmodem support for SoundBlaster and compatible
<*> all the posible modulation types of soundmodems

-I've download and installed from the powertools of RH6.1:
        -ax25-apps-0.0.4-1.i386.rpm
        -libax25-0.0.7-1.i386.rpm
        -ax25-tools-0.0.5-1.i386.rpm
        -libax25-devel-0.0.7-1.i386.rpm (i think this one isn't neccesary)
(I tryed to compile the ax25-utils-2.1.42 but it gives me errors, and these
packages didn't give me error dependences)

Here is a log of the steps I follow:
[root@localhost /root]# insmod es1371 /* The sound module to initialize my
                                        card */
[root@localhost /root]# xmms /* a x program to play any sound - jennifer
                                    lopez :) */
root@localhost /root]# rmmod es1371 /* I remove the module, now it can't
get in conflict with the other module*/
[root@localhost /root]# insmod hdlcdrv /* I insert the hdlc driver */
[root@localhost /root]# insmod soundmodem /* I insert the soundmodem module */
[root@localhost /root]# sethdlc -p -i sm0 mode sbc:afsk1200 io 0xe800 irq 9 serio 0x3f8
sethdlc: Version 0.5; (C) 1996-1997 by Thomas Sailer HB9JNX/AE4WA
driver name: soundmodem
current parameters: mode <unspec>:<unspec>,<unspec> io 0x0 irq 0 dma 255 dma2
4294967295 serio 0x0 pario 0x0 midiio 0x0
new parameters: mode sbc:afsk1200 io 0xe800 irq 9 dma 255 dma2 4294967295 serio
0x3f8 pario 0x0 midiio 0x0
[root@localhost /root]# ifconfig sm0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device not configured
[root@localhost /root]# ups!
bash: ups!: command not found /* [:-( I'm a flat head */
[root@localhost /root]#

I know that there is a lot of configuration that I will must do after this, but
I think that this is the first step, isn't it?

QUESTIONS:
-Anybody knows the meaning of "SCIOFFLAGS: Device not configure" What i'm
doing wrong? or What i'm not doing?
-What i must put in the dma option of my soundcard?, I can't found it in
windows, and the sound driver only give me information about the io address
and the irq, but nothing about dma.
-Is there anymore documents only about the use of soundcards as packet modems?
-Is neccesary make the ptt control circuits to prove that
thesoundmodem works?
-Would be less problems with a old ISA SB16?

Two years ago, I found the same program (soundmodem written by Tom Sailer)
for MS-DOS and I could make it work with a baycom terminal specially designed
for it, and something called flexnet driver. They were all in differents web
pages, and very undocumented (I think that from the Tom's web page is now
inaccesible, or I think there is not link to it). At least, it was easy to
configure. If anyone is interested, e-mail me.

PD: Gracias por tus links, Salvador.

Thanks for reading this probably stupid question.
