At this point I have "/usr/local/bin/smdiag -i sm0;
/usr/local/bin/smmixer -i sm0 s=mic i=0
also "/usr/local/sbin/sethdlc -i sm0" (note: no other parameters) at
the end will enable you to immediately see packets as they are received.

Best to turn the speaker off, packet noise can frighten the elderly
and small children.
