I had a similar problem with SuSE 6.3.
Make sure your kernel compile includes all the proper ax25 support. I found
that even tho the modules were available the out of the box kernel needed to
be rebuilt and ax25 support added.
I wouldn't be surprised if RedHat has the same problem.
