Am not familiar with SUSE 5.3 initial load procedures and the software it =
uses. However, if you haven't already, have you tried the following:
1) loading a different OS such as MS Windows (any flavor)
2) you determined the partition that hung when you tried using the =
disk's original configuration. Did you try to determine which
cylinder the hang occurred on? Am not familiar with your BIOS, =
but if your install program uses the BIOS routines for accessing
disk there may be a limitation on the total number of cylinders
it can access. The limitation could be 1024. You might try
repartitioning so that your root, swap and usr fit within this
limitation and not worry about the others till after you've loaded
Linux which uses its own access routines.
I hope this helps.

I just recently set up Redhat 5.1 Linux on my PC. I've read that only
Postscript printers are supported under Linux, but I don't know if that's
true. Can anyone with more Linux knowledge than I (which is practically
everyone!) tell me if it's possible to use a Lexmark Inkjet printer under

I too was looking for a PCI V.90 modem. What I found at the local CompUSA and
others were all Winmodem type modems. The box may or may not indicate whether
you must have windows to run it.
In one case, I bought one that said it was Windows compatible and still found
that it wouldn't work. When I called the technical support hotline, I was
transferred to a tech who knew about the problem and was told that they only
support Windows.
During a discussion on this news group, someone had located a new modem
announcement from MultiTech that looked like it may be usable. Someone had
E-mailed the company and received a response. See posting under

How
quickly it redraws the screen with multiply windows in it?
I was considering the G200 instead because I thought that the TNT was

If you know exactly what you need and not planning on returning

If you're not sure, just use any nearby retail store.

I have an Fujitsu M2513A Magneto-optical drive on my computer. It works
fine under
Win95, but I don't know how to setup it in Linux (I'm relative new in
Unix world).
This device has UW-SCSI-2 interface, and works with 640Mb hard-sectored
(2048bps) disks. During boot kernel correctly determines SCSI-adapter
and MO drive, but than says, that disk has 0.0M capacity and "can't read
partition table on /dev/sda".
Please, tell me, what I can do whith it?

Hello.
I have a ASUS P2L97-S mainboard with an onboard Adaptec AIC7880 SCSI chip.
I have 2 SCSI hard drives attached to the 68-pin cable and a SONY CDU
948-S CD burner on the 50 pin cable. I'm running RedHat Linux 5.2 and I'm
using the aic7xxx module for SCSI support.
The problem is that every time there's intense SCSI activity (i.e. copying
large files) the system freezes completely: no display, no keyboard, no
network, nothing.
There is another thing I should mention: the SCSI BIOS detects the devices
in this order: HDD1 (id 4) - CD burner (id 0) - HDD2 (id 5), but the Linux
SCSI module detects the CD burner first, then the 2 HDD's.
Has anyone else run into this? Any ideas?
Regards,
SaNdMaN.

quake (renderers soft, softx, svga) I have problems.
With softx renderer, only half of window is filled with quake, other
half stays black
With soft renderer, the only resolution I can use is 320x200.
I have tried to change /etc/vga/libvga.config - settins for all (VGA,
Mach64, SVGA) settings but I won't help. With mach64 quake generates
segmentation fault as well as with SVGA. With VGA settings can't change
better resolution.

I need to add some remote cameras to an existing RH v5.1 based web
server. The cameras will be from 30 to 100 meters away from the Linux
box, so I can't use any out-of-the-box web cams. I think I need a
combination of frame grabber card and CCD camera that can talk to each
other over some variety of coax cable. The end result is to have a web
page that is "continuously" updated from the cameras.
Can anyone point me toward commercially available hardware / Linux
software drivers to help me accomplish this? Any help or pointers are
appreciated.

The G200 is fast in both XWindows and in Windows9x/NT. Plus, with the
2.2.0pre* series (not sure exactly when it was introduced), the console
itself is G200 accelerated (why though??). Works great (try a RivaTNT with
BeOS - hahaha). Just make sure you use XFree86 3.3.3 (3.3.2 doesn't support
the G200). I'm not entirely sure the RivaTNT is supported by XFree86 or the
like. It might be - I just may have missed it when I looked it up.

Is it possible to telnet into the machine from the network? If so you
could try to kill the X-server and see if it helps. However, I think
that the S3 servers are considered very stable. If it doesn't help to
kill the X-server but you are able to telnet into the machine, at least
you will probably be able to shutdown the machine in a controlled way.
