Any idea how to get Linux work with an Adaptec AAA-131SA (Array1000SA)
RAID controller? Linux sees an Adaptec 398X instead and all the single
disks, but not the stripe sets which already exist.

TIA,

The problem is coming from:

199.201.191.2

It is changing the Message-ID, so the bounces escape the natural screening
of news servers. I'm fairly sure the problem is being looked into, news
admins probably don't appreciate their news traffic tripling overnight.

Urk.

I just bought my Emachine last month. I never got the Mach64 sever to work right.
But, I used SVGA sever and It seems to work fairly well. I can get 1024X768 up to
32 bits.

I am having problems with a BT848-based Zoltrix video grabber. Is there
anyone out there who knows something about these? I am using 2.0.36
and the bttv 0.6 driver. Bttv reports:

Mar 18 16:34:20 molokai kernel: bttv: 1 Bt8xx card(s) found.
Mar 18 16:34:20 molokai kernel: bttv0: audio chip: TDA9840

     devfn: 152, irq: 10, memory: 0xf1000000.

I only get a black screen. Grabbing an image from the screen results in the
following error:

grab: no match for: 2048x1572 24 bit TrueColor (bytes: rgb)
grab: no match for: 384x288 16 bit TrueColor (bits: rrrrrggg gggbbbbb)

Any hints?

Keep in mind that back then 8k was a lot of memory. The
PDP-11/20 my college had back in the '70's when I was an
undergraduate supported over 40 teletypes in a timesharing

Hello!

I'm a french newby on Linux and I need some help (I need very quickly to
have linux with IPsec for my studies...)

Here is my problem :
I've installed the RH5.2 distribution (kernel 2.0.36), but I can't setup X
with my Trident Image 3D 975 4Mo AGP (on ww.xfree86.org, it's said that it's
supported) : this card isn't on the card list of the setup and I've tried a
lot of Trident "drivers" with X66Setup, but, either my screen stays black,
either I've an error 111, when X is tested.

Could anyone help me finding a solution ??

Thanks

I just bought Red Hat Linux 5.2. After I installed it, I wanted to go on
the internet to check my mail, but to my suprise, I could not. I tried
almost everything, from trying to set jumpers on the modem (there were no
jumpers), using that ISAPNP program (the modem didn't show up in
/etc/isapnp.conf), and using loadlin after i've been in Windows. I have no
clue what to do from here.

I don't have one of those US Robotics 56.6k WinModems...but it seems like
it. I am currently using a Zoom 56K PCI Dualmode modem ( www.zoomtel.com )
model #2925 modem. The WinModems don't have a DSP chip or something like
that, mine does have a DSP chip, and the manual says "PCI devices, including
your new faxmodem, use COM ports differently from the way older ISA devices
use them. Software applications will always associate the COM port number
with the 'traditional' IRQ used for that COM port even though Windows uses a
different IRQ internally...." blah blah blah... So, it appears as my modem
assigns itself an IRQ, IO base, etc, but never get's it's own com port (I
don't think Linux uses com ports?)

Anyways, about KDE, how am i supposed to use it as my windows manager? I
have it installed, but I don't know how to use it.

Thanks a lot,

Jason Carr

The technical contact can be anyone you want. He doesn't really have to do
anything anyway (I'm the technical contact for my domain, I've never had to
do anything)

> Is there any inexpensive solution for me to host a site on my Linux box

This depends on what kind of IP you have, static or dynamic. AFAIK it's not
possible to have a domain with a dynamic IP, as your address changes every
time you log on. There are some places (like www.dynip.com) that can
provide you with a subdomain on a dynamic IP, but that costs money, plus
you have to run a special client software, and I don't know if that
software is availible for Linux

If you have a static IP (dedicated connection/some cable modem accounts),
you can setup your box to be a DNS and to run a web server. Unfortunately,
you need two DNS's, one primary and one backup. I don't know if there are
any free DNS servers out there, my hosting provider takes care of that.
Otherwise, maybe you could get a friend to run a DNS if they have a static
IP as well.
I hope that helps,

/Karl

Hi all,

I am planning to get a domain name registered with InterNIC which asks for a
DNS as a part of registration. Could someone advise how to get a DNS? I don't
want to have to sign-up with a hosting service and start paying them, as I am
not ready to start hosting the site right away.

Is it possible to get a free DNS? Does the "technical contact" always have to
be from the DNS provider? Or, can I be the admin/billing/tech contact?

Is there any inexpensive solution for me to host a site on my Linux box at
home without having to pay a professional hosting service?

Please advise. Thanks.
