Hello,

I've a strange problem with hylafax (from SuSe 6.0) with faxgetty and
modem creatix joe 33.6 (ROCKWELL AC/V34, Fax Class 2). I can receive
facsimilies, but I can't send some. The send process ends with:

Send program terminated abnormally with exit status 0xb.

While initializing the modem everthing is ok, exept for

[9:AT+FAP=?\r]
[5:ERROR]

That command is not described in rockwells command syntax. What is it
for?

Thank you for all suggestions.

If it's possible, what are the resource ramifications?

Hi,

I installed Linux (SuSE 6.0) on my computer and configured
the modem and I can connect to internet and browse and send email
with Netscape, so that part works at least :)
I have an NE2000 compatible network card and did configure
it with "YAST". But how can I now view shared drives on
my other computer? (with Windows, I have a FAT16 drive shared that I
want
to use to "transfer" files from Windows to Linux, like tar's I
downloaded)

Anyone has a suggestion?
Please be as specific as possible since I am just a newbie in Linux. :)

Thank you!

Hi Mark. Seems like lots of mediagx questions here. I have one

I haven't even tried, but if someone has a quick answer for a newbie....

I'm thinking of trying to load RH5.2 on a Mac PowerBook Duo 210. It has a

If anyone knows for sure whether it will or won't work, drop a note in reply

Subject: Re: Linux, SCSI, RAID0 performance
Date: Sat, 27 Mar 1999 17:23:57 GMT

I am interested to see the specs. I was just about to start
loading Debian 2.1 w/RAID 0 across 4 F/W disks. I cannot comment on
your main question therefore, but I can address the other.
The difference between UW and U2W SCSI is the bus frequency.
U2W runs the bus twice as fast. In that way, it's precisely like the
difference between FW and UW. U2W is still 16 bits wide, so your
drives are running at the maximum speed supported by your controller
(as reported in the boot-up messages).
There will be very high CPU utilization when running software
RAID. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to say how the numbers
"should" compare. However, that is the reason hardware RAID
controllers have their own (fairly powerful, quite focused) processors
on board. It takes a lot to handle RAID, especially the varieties
which stripe the data or use checksums. I am still going to try it
myself, however.
Perhaps you'd be kind enough to post or e-mail anything you
find which speeds your performance?

I've never tried to use one under linux, I should think you have
to use a driver which the manufacturer wrote, probably they only bothered
writing one for win95.

Unless you have problems upgrading your machine, I would recommend you
buy an I/O card with another printer port on it. Such a card will probably
be cheaper than the printer switch, and will also have two serial ports
for future use, and maybe another ide & floppy controller. Then you can
connect two printers to your computer with no confusion.

It's very possible, and performance didn't suffer. I did this on
P133/32MB ram system for a fre months before upgrading it to a Celeron
333.

Network routing/forwarding performance suffered a bit when the Linux CPU
was pegged (compiling or other resource-intensive use).

I mostly run X or telnet sessions to the linux box, and stay off the
console.

It turns out that my sound card (SB PCI128) and one of

Hello all--

I have recently put together a system that contains a USR V.90 internal
faxmodem, model # 0584. The modem does handshake and connect, but when it
connects, it exhibits "stop and go" behavior -- it'll pause for up to 10
seconds between every few characters one types in. I have checked for
interrupt conflicts in /proc/interrupts, and it's OK there (only dev on
IRQ3), but these new modems don't have jumpers to set the IRQ anymore, so
who knows what it's set to on the board... Anyone out there who can confirm
this type of modem does work with Linux (kernel 2.0.36) and perhaps suggest
AT cmd param's? (BTW, I have checked out the modem list at
http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html, and this model is not listed
there.)

Well, Surecom (http://www.surecom.com.tw/) has some low-cost networking
products. They have proven reliable in my firm.

The main difference between a HUB and a SWITCH is, that the switch
establishes a kind of direct connection between the communicating
parties.

The Advance of this: switched connections are usually faster than
hub-connections, 'cos they allow full-duplex-mode

The Drawback: Switches are a lot more expansive than hubs (at least here
