Hi,
To install RH to the jazz drive don't specify the mount point as /jazz.
After you have selected the jazz drive as the one you whish to install to
instead of entering /jazz just type '/ ', without the '.
This will work, I just hope I explained it well enough that it makes sense.

Download the updates:
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.3.1-1.1.i386.rpm
.... XF86Setup-3.3.3.1-1.1.i386.rpm
perform updates via rpm using --force
Run XFree86Setup.. and go through install. Let the process probe, just
identify the memory installed in the card. Works great.

X has installed the plain vanilla VGA16 server by the looks of it. Make sure
you also installed the SVGA server and a Mach64 server if available
seperately when you installed the Xfree package.

Hmmmmm ... well, if it doesnt start and complains that there are no
servers installed, how about _installing_a_server_?! ;-) Youll need
at least the XF86_SVGA server, plus XF86_VGA16 if you intend to run
XF86Setup (the GUI setup tool).
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/3.3.3.1/binaries/
Choose the proper subdirectory for your architecture/libc, then go
to the Servers subdirectory and get XSVGA.tgz and XVG16.tgz.

I'm in the market for a new printer in the $260CDN range. I'm looking
for suggestions of *current printers* which are Linux-compatible. I've
checked the GhostScript how-to and a couple of other places which all
seem to list older supported printers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Subject: Hardware conflicting - give me a hand, please
Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1999 01:50:20 -0400
I'll try this one more time, and then linux gets thrown out the window :)
(probably not, actually)
Over the past three weeks, I have installed the different flavors of RedHat
5.9, Debian 2.1, and SuSE 6.0. I've had problems with all, but I think I've
settled on SuSE. Nevertheless, all have generally given me the same problem
with no way to solve it.
Overview of problem:
I cannot get my AWE64 isa PnP, pci ethernet card, and pci Promise Ultra66
add-on card working all at the same time. If I get sound to work - I can
use my ethernet or my add-on card, _but not both_. When sound doesn't work,
then I can get both ethernet and my add-on card to work. Alright, now the
gory details as to WHY this happens.
Detailed info:
The way I get my sound card to work is by disabling a setting in the
BIOS. That setting is "PnP OS installed". So when that is set to no - my
sound card works. After enabling that setting - my sound card doesn't work.
All that comes up on boot is Sound init started and Sound init completed. I
believe I'm assuming correctly in that this is an IRQ conflict, but why the
hell does changing that setting render my sound card useless? And is there
a way to solve this WITHOUT buying OSS. OSS works and all, but I would
rather get this working without any of those additional drivers.
I'm running Kernel 2.2.6 (Also tried this on 2.0.36 and 2.2.5) with Sound
card support compiled into the kernel. Please somebody help me, as I am
getting VERY desperate. I would LOVE to use linux as my primary OS, but
this one little obstacle stands in my way and I will leave The Dark Side and
join your forces if someone who browses these newsgroups can aid me in
getting everything working. Thank you very much!
dpc
Remove _NOSPAM_ to e-mail me directly - My apologies for any inconvenience.
p.s. When sound card works and I enable my ide add-on card - I receieve the
following error from my 3com 3C905B-TX
SIOCSIFFLAGS Resource Temporarily unavailable - Ring a bell anybody??!

Hello.
I edited a user's count, exactly I deleted the user using linuxconf.
and then I rebooted the linux ( redhat5.2)system,
After that, I got error messages as follows: I couldn't boot the system.

How can I fix these error messages?
I tried to get into the system using the resuse.img booting disk,
but there was not any command to fix it.. it was like base directory and
files in there when I get into there using the rescued disk,
I got it from Redhat ftp site.
please help, if you know what problems are, I think it is terrible
thing.
or, could you please recommend whether there is a good site to
figure it out?
please, any comment I will appreciate it.

It took me quite a few tries to get the Xconfigurator to work for my
system:
Motherboard: Abit BX6
CPU: Intel 300A Celeron
Video: ATI All-in-Wonder Pro AGP 8Meg
Sound: SoundBlaster 16
Monitor: CTX 17" Model 1769
- The ATI Card works for me on RedHat 5.2 with or without the XFree86
upgrade.
- RedHat 5.9 Beta recognizes the ATI card better
If you mess up during initial install of configuring your video card,
just type in
Xconfigurator at the # prompt and reconfigure....
Here are the steps I went through to get my card to work:
# Xconfigurator
PCI PROBE
PCI probing found a:
PCI Entry: Mach 64 GB
XServer: Mach 64
OK
MONITOR SETUP
Selected Generic MultiSync
(5.9 has my monitor listed, so I like the new Xconfigurator)
Screen Configuration
Don't Probe
Video Memory
8 Meg
Clockchip Configuration
No Clockchip Setting (recommended)
Probe for Clocks
Skip
Select Video Modes
24 Bit: "1024 x 768"
You're Done
OK
# startx

Sven,
I have the same video card. It works just fine for me. You can select the
video card in Xconfigurator. However, I had problems at first because my
monitor's frequency range wasn't set right. If you set it wrong, and
attempt to go at true color, it will either not let you, or your monitor
will be toast. (It almost happened to me.)

This is off-topic, but MS-DOS batch files can be made to test for error
