Subject: Modem doesn't run!! Dump Multiport boards

Hi~

I struggled for three hours yesterday midnight.
I read the "Serial-HOWTO" file in RedHat 5.2 installation CD-ROM.

Here is the result when I test modem using "setserial" command.

>setserial -a /dev/ttyS1

Line 1, UART: 16550A, PORT: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3
Baud_base: 115200, close_delay: 50, divisor: 0
closing_wait: 3000, closing_wait2: infinte
Flags: spd_normal skip_test

/dev/ttyS0 showed same result like /dev/ttyS1.
But, ttyS2 and ttyS3 failed.

I tried to set serial port many times along the guide line
in Serial-HOWTO. But, the modem didn't run anytime!

It makes me crazy. Oh! shit~

My modem runs very well under Windows 95 and it doesn't have
port changing dip switch: "Dump Multiport mode" <- it explained in
the file.

I conclude that my modem doesn't run under Linux. Is there
any solution?

I don't wanna waste for setting the modem. Do I purchase a modem
which has dip switch? or what modem runs well on Linux?

Blue Skies~
Hun

I know I've seen somewhere that theres a way to swap the left and right
stereo channels on the sound card. Does that require a kernel
reconfig/recompile? I can't remember where I've seen that option. Is
there an easier way? (It's not my idea of a great time spending an hour
to compile a kernel... ;)

None. All features of mine work under linux via AT commands.
Advantage: Internal has less latency or "lag" than externals (great
for game playing)
Disadvantage: have to power down whole computer to turn off modem (bad
when/if modem locks up, but no big deal)

USR courier I-modem (an ISDN terminal adapter that works with both
analog and ISDN)

Great. Good luck. Don't buy a "winmodem".

My modem didn't run on Linux!
No signal.

You still need a motherboard chipset and os driver that supports 66MHz PCI. The U/66
can not magically change either.

Hello out there!

I've got a problem which is driving me nuts (after a couple of days
spent resolving it without success).

I recently bought a DC390F SCSI adaptor plugged it into my new NMC-5VMX
mainboard cabled my (also recent) IBM DDRS-34560W to the wide port of
the adaptor and tried to boot my machine into Linux. And what happened!
Have a look at that:

sym53c876-0-<1,*>: FAST-20 SCSI 20.0 MB/s (50 ns, offset 15)
sym53c876-0:1: ERROR (0:48) (1-21-65) (f/95) @ (script 7c0:19000000).
sym53c876-0: script cmd = 19000000
sym53c876-0: regdump: da 10 80 95 47 0f 01 07 75 01 81 21 80 01 09 00.
sym53c876-0: restart (scsi reset).
sym53c876-0: Downloading SCSI SCRIPTS.

Anytime something is accessed on the HD there are a lot of errors of the
above type. The interesting point now is that if I connect my HD to the
narrow port of the adaptor everything works fine.

I tried a whole bunch of things to solve the problems. It's independent
of the HD being the only thing on the DC390F or being together with my
CD-ROM on the narrow port (HD on wide port, CD on narrow port -->
errors; HD on narrowport together with cd --> ok!). First I tried the
version of ncr53c8xx which came originally with teh kernel source 2.0.36
which was 2.5f. Then I updated to v 1.3e of sym53c8xx which i downloaded
from ftp.tux.org/pub/roudier/.... But as you can see above that didn't
change anything. It's also independent of the settings of the adaptor.
When the HD was on the wide port I tried wide negotiation yes and no.
The result was always the above.

Help urgently wanted!!! I think it should be possible to use an UW-HD on
the UW port of an UW host adaptor!

My config: kernel 2.0.36 (Debian 2.1 (slink)), Tekram DC390F BIOS v3.03,
IBM DDRS34560W

Drivers used: ncr53c8xx v2.5f, sym53c8xx v1.3e, latest patches
(pDC390x_ncr.gz, pMChp2_0_31.gz) from ftp.tekram.com for the Tekram
DC390F driver

The 2GB limit on files only matters if you have Win9x.

Don't blame Linux for this.

Those 3dfx chips only support 16bit color (at least in 3d mode). (I'm
serious!) The windows drivers use interesting tricks to support
higher resolutions.

I guess under X the truth comes out...

I have to add that everything works fine with some other OS from the
northwestern US (HD on wide port)

Yep, Roy you have the right command.
