If the machine is a stock redhat 5.2 system you should be able to get it
up and running fine using sndconfig.... But since you cant i would look
into a possible conflict of some kind. I have this card and have had it
working with 2.0.36 using both the alsa drivers and the oss free(the
default redhat) and have had little to no problems at all
configuring/building.

I had some problems getting the newest alsa to compile on 5.2 but was
able to get 3.something pre3 to work ok... you might try those.

If you can get the alsa drivers up and running 110% better than oss
drivers.

Does anyone know how well quantum hard drives work under linux? I have
heard that the Bigfoot drives have problems. I'm thinking of buying a
Fireball Plus KA. It's a EIDE Ultra ata/66 drive, either 13.6 or 18.2 GB.
I just wanted to find out if anyone knew of any problems. Also, does
anyone have any suggestions for other large drives?

The TNT1 chipset is supported by Xfree86 3.3.3.1, tou don't need to recompile
the kernel, just to configure X with Xconfigurator or XF86Setup or xf86config
or anything else...support for TNT1 is avaible in the card list of the
configuration utilities as viper 550, and RIVA TNT, but only color depth up to
16 bit is supported for now.

PS: instead i'd like to know how to get working a TNT2:)

I have the latest X Server which I installed with Red Hat 5.2. Anyways,
it is supposed to support my card (mentioned in the subject). I have no
doubt that it probably does, but I am having trouble. I can't get it to
work and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the
video card is built into the motherboard. Yes I have a crappy Compaq
presario with a lovely S3 Virge Gx on board. (this is sarcasm). Please
don't laugh, I've beaten myself silly over this time and time again.

Anyways, does anybody know if this could be my problem. As well, the
video card has video capture and I'm not sure if that is also another
fly in the ointment. I may be wrong here and just have to tweak my
settings better, but before I really mess things up I'd like to know if
anyone is aware of any problems like this.

Thanks!

==============DEE5A070E31502EF058C8289
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

I'm using a Hauppauge Win/TV capture card ( Hauppauge new (bt878))
tested on RedHat6.0 (pentium) kernel 2.2.7 and 2.2.7-ac3
with bttv-0.6.4 and bttv-0.6.3 compiled as modules and loaded
into the kernel in autoclean mode.

...
alias char-major-81 bttv
post-install bttv ( /sbin/modprobe -k tuner )
...

The same result all the time: kernel panic when starting capturing.
- xawtv 2.43 on localhost : OK ( when running v4l-conf )
- xawtv on remote host : kernel panic
- vidcat ( included in w3cam ): kernel panic
- vic ( with V4L grabber ): kernel panic

All these applications work fine if I first run xawtv on localhost.

It's easy to reproduce ( too easy )
The problem happens at the VIDIOCSYNC ioctl :

   if (-1 == ioctl (fd, VIDIOCSYNC, &vid_mmap.frame)) {
                        perror ("ioctl VIDIOCSYNC");
                        exit(1);
                }

Any idea ?

Subject: MAD16 SoundCard with KDE
Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 10:57:42 +0200

Hi!

I=B4ve a problem configuring my MAD16 compatible NoName soundcard (OPTi
82C929 chipset). I went all the way through the HOWTOs and READMEs
delivered with my SuSE 6.1 and recompiled my kernel and sound-modules
according to these instructions. My soundcard seems to work (wavplay can
play wave-sounds, I hear the sounds from my speakers) xmix is able to
control the playback-volume, but I cannot configure system-sound for
KDE. In the control-panel, I can set whatever I want to, but KDE play no
sound. Is there something I should set up?

conf.modules contains the following lines:
alias mixer0 mad16
alais audio0 mad16
alias midi0 mad16
alias synth0 opl3
options sb  mad16=3D1
options mad16  io=3D0x530 irq=3D11 dma=3D0 dma16=3D1 mpu_irq=3D9 mpu_io=3D=
0x330
joystick=3D1 cdtype=3D0
options opl3  io=3D0x388

cat /dev/sndstat says, there is no synth-device loaded.

Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Another question: When starting Xmcd, it complains about being unable to
stat "/dev/rcd0". How do I vave to create and set up this device?

Greetings
Thorsten

I'm using XF86 3.3.3.X SVGA 800x600x24Bit.

They say the symptoms are that the screen start to flicker and that it
could be damaged
and warn You to to shut X down immediately untill there's a fix.
And that is what mine does. Of course there is a "slight" possibilty
I've misconfigured other things too :-).

/Cheers

You have to enable support for development and/or incomplete drivers in
Code Maturity Options. Then you'll see your card appear in the list of
network cards.

Subject: bttv - bt878 : kernel panic
Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 10:39:01 +0200

==============DEE5A070E31502EF058C8289

The problem happens at the VIDIOCSYNC ioctl :

   if (-1 == ioctl (fd, VIDIOCSYNC, &vid_mmap.frame)) {
                        perror ("ioctl VIDIOCSYNC");
                        exit(1);
                }

Any idea ?
