He's posting here because he's a lousy spammer and seems to think that

Just another killfile entry here...

I tried to put a Zoltrix Radio Plus to work in my linux box [RH6], but it
seems the driver (radio-zoltrix.o) only accepts 0x20c and 0x30c as possible
values for IO. I know this should be ok, but this one comes with another
set of IO, 0x300, 0x320, 0x340 and 0x360.
I already tried to modify the driver but having no success.
Everything I need to change is in here or I have to dig little more ?
If this is the case, please, give me some kind of tip ...
Anyway, thanks.

Subject: Audio CD problems
Date: Wed, 08 Sep 1999 16:22:47 GMT
I'm running Red Hat 6.0 with kernel 2.2.5-22. I'm having problems
playing audio CDs in my CD-ROM drive. When I push play on the CD player
the disc begins reading (I can see the in-use light go on) and the
elapsed time starts on the display but there is no audio. I can mount a
CD in the drive and read it just fine. I have an Ensoniq AudioPCI
soundcard (es1370). The sndconfig tool recognizes the soundcard and I
can hear the sample sound but I can't hear any of the desktop event
sounds even when testing them. Here is some relevant output from my
/var/log/messages file:
Sep 7 20:19:02 localhost modprobe: can't locate module sound-slot-0
Sep 7 20:19:02 localhost modprobe: can't locate module \
sound-service-0-6
Sep 7 20:21:02 localhost kernel: ATAPI device hdd:
Sep 7 20:21:02 localhost kernel: Error: Not ready -- (Sense key=0x02)
Sep 7 20:21:02 localhost kernel: Medium removal prevented -- \
(asc=0x53, ascq=0x02)
Sep 7 20:21:02 localhost kernel: The failed "Start Stop Unit" \
packet command was:
Sep 7 20:21:02 localhost kernel: "1b 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 \
00 "
The continuation characters (\) are my own because of the limited width
I have. The sndconfig tool puts the following line in my conf.modules
file:
alias sound es1370
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to correct this problem.

Hi,
Thanks for the information, sound is finaly working on my Caldera 2.2
system except for one thing:
The sound is doing like an echoe (wa, wa, wa... type of thing ...).
Seems that its repeating the sound 3 or 4 times.
Any idea of the problem ?
Thanks in advance

a price tag of around $200 or so.
I want to setup an automated tape backup system as quickly and

Hi folks,
I'm trying to decide on the purchase of a new desktop. The Kryotech
800mhz AMD system really sound sweet, but I'm a bit concerned about
noise related to the condenser. So I've never been able to understand
how well Linux handles multi-processor systems. Will a dual PIII-500mhz
system be about twice as fast as a single CPU system?
Thanks,

You have two separate issues here:
1) Linux can be used as an Internet firewall for a local
network regardless of client computers on the LAN.
See Masquerade, Routing, Firewall.
2) Using Linux printers from Windows clients:
There are two printing options that can be used.
a. One uses the Berkeley LPR/LPD protocol that can be setup
on your clients and natively supported by Linux.
b. The other requires SAMBA installation on Linux and uses
the native Microsoft Network print sharing mechanisms.
SAMBA must then be configured to share the Linux printers.

I am looking for the best combination of distribution, configuration and
office productivity apps with the following goal.
- Reasonable performance on 486-33, 16 MB Ram, <400 MB HD.
- All software free.
- apps appropriate for NON-Technical end users need to do wordprocessing,
spreadsheet, email, web browsing, and callandering.
- apps not dead (ie: old versions with no future or new development)
I am doing this as a pet project to see if it is feasible to use linux
and linux available apps to distribute to non-profit workers in 3rd world
countries where $$$ and hdwr are scarce.
I am currently testing on 486-100 AMD, 20 MB Ram, 500 MB HD.
