I have the same card and I just used a SB16 driver in sndconfig instead of
the pnp driver. I had to do a little tinkering, but I did manage to get it
to work fine.

did you try multiple partitions?

how about

/boot (to avoid bios/lilo trouble - at 10 megs)
[swap] (use 128 megs - i mean you *do* have the disk space!)
/ (everything else - should go up to 12G)

you lose about 1G of 13G to marketing 1G = 1e10
vs computese 1G = 2^30 = 1.073.741.824

you ought to see 12.1 G. if not, get a better fdisk.

if you like what partition you got now, try the latest fdisk and see
if you can't make that last 4G another linux partition.

Subject: XISP and USR Robotics Internal 56K modem
Date: Sun, 12 Sep 1999 21:59:47 -0400

I'm using a USR PNP 56K Modem w/ Linux and up until
yesterday have been connecting to the internet with no
problem. I am isapnp to find the modem at setup and
XISP to log in when in X-Windows. I also sometimes use a ppp script if I
am
logging in from the command line.

Just recently, I've been unable to login using XISP at all --
I attempt logging in and get an error 'Chat returned 2' and
'Modem initialization failed'. I am able to login using the PPP script,
but only once in a session. If I log out and try to log back in I get an
error message 'Connection script failed' -- real informative! I have no
problems connecting
using Windows 98 or Windows NT. What the hell is going
on? I've not changed anything about my system since the
last time I was able to login. When I try to check out the system using
minicom to dial-out - it tells me the modem
is already in use and that I need to hangup. When I try to
hangup, and dial-out again, it gives me the same message.

I am extremely frustrated. Please help!!!

Please send e-mail, I rarely read this newsgroup.

THanks!

Thanks for the reply. Here comes a dumb question:

How do you know what address each COM port is set to? And, is an IRQ tied to a
COM/address?

Thanks again,

Where you physically put partitions on a disk platter would affect the
access time of the data on the partition just due to how far the head
has to travel to read/write data. I guess if someone is REALLY anal
then it matters but we're talking a difference of a couple milliseconds
with PC drives.

> I forget what size blocks I used -- I guess that's easy enough to figure

Actually block size could make a difference on the amount of data you
could store on a partition. In NetWare 4.11 Novell was smart and turned
on disk sub-allocation. If you have block sizes of 8K and you write a
1K file to it then in effect you're wasting 7K of disk space. With NW
4.11 sba that other 7K would be made available to other files = less
wasted space. The OS comes into play as far as how much
'administrative' overhead is required to write data on a platter (sector
header info, etc).

Uhhh... how did you manage to plug a Sun mouse into a PS/2 port?
They're completely different connectors other than the fact that they both
use "Mini-DIN" shell/plug. That type of hardware failure mode (if you
managed (or is that mangled?) to plug these two together) would be known
as "bent pins".

I just bought a 366c and I haven't been able to configure
both Video Card and Sound Card.

But I do have one question that I want to find out the answer
immediately, What is the format of the case? Can I get
some other case (and power supply) so that the motherboard can
fit in? I really want to know becuaes I was told that the power supply
is not reliable and it is hard to just change the power supply.
Any input is welcomed.

Cheers--alan

If you buy an Intel CPU, then you're screwed. Intel is nasty about
people running their CPUs at anything except for the rate they sell them
at, either under or over... AMD is a good choice, since they don't care
if you overclock their CPUs. Cyrix and Winchip are ok, but the quality
is inferior to that of AMD and Intel. So AMD is probably your best bet,
followed by Cyrix and then WinChip.

The standard PC addresses and irq's are:

COM1 3f8 irq4
COM2 2f8 irq3
COM3 3e8 irq4
COM4 2e8 irq3

I have a mouse on COM1, my COM2 is open and a modem
is ADDRESS 3e8 but manually set to irq5 for Linux (so as to not
bother the device on COM2).

Be sure to use a CHEAP mouse clone, an INTELLIPOINT or other
INTELLIGENT rodent will not handle being switched off / on during use and

This is the problem. Fdisk just doesn't see the whole disk. According
to fdisk the whole disk is in use and there is nothing left to
