[RH6.1 - 2.2.12-20smp]
I plan on getting several devices, independent of my computer, that use
flash-memory. I'm having a hard time determining Linux's compatibility
with flash-memory card/chips. I've looked at a couple of text files in
/usr/src/linux, and checked a few hardware compatibility lists on the
web. The result being few answers, at least definitive ones.
Are there memory card/chip "drives" that can be mounted in a
workstation/server?
Are there Linux drivers for the above devices?
What about kernel modules, etc.?
Any info, or web links, on the above would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

My major concerns were being able to boot at all, given that I
have an old O/S (Red Hat 5.2), and also being able to read the
hard drive. The RH 5.2 support site warns that the Adaptec 2940
U2W *ought* to work but really hasn't been tested.
If I were assembling a new system with a newer Linux distro, I'd
certainly look at newer cards, including LVD &c.

Few vendors had the 2940 UW.

Hi! Guys:
I'm moving from Win to LINUX. I'm placing this question here because
in spanish newsgroups no one has ever heard about my ISDN card. I wonder
if any of you has. If so, please, heeeeeeeeelp. I've a NetCommander
ISDN/EC 128 kbps card from Diamond Multimedia. I realize the card is old
but I do not know if it is possible to run it under LINUX.
Thanks in advance

The 50-pin connector is attached to the same bus. You need to get the
more expensive 3940UW to get two busses.
Now, if your narrow devices are all non-Ultra, then the bus will run in
"fast" mode when they are accessing it, so you may be able to stretch
your length limit a bit, but it's still not a good idea.

AFAIK, the U2W and the UW have identical software characteristics. I
know they use the same chipsets. Unfortuntaely, I haven't had a chance
to use one either.
Keep in mind that the 2940 driver from RH5.2 has some known bugs. Be
sure to install the latest available kernel for it (see the RedHat
Errata page).
You may also want to look into upgrading to the 2.2.x kernel. The RH6.1
and 6.2 boxes aren't too expensive if you buy at computer shows and flea
markets.
According to /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/README.aic7xxx from the
2.2.12-20 kernel (RH 6.1, plus patches), the 2940U2W and 3940U2W are
supported. According to the file, only these are not supported:
AHA-2920 (with Future Domain chipset)
AHA-13x RAID adapters
AHA-113x RAID port card
AIC-7810 motherboard chipset
all RAID port busses

frustating, god i know, to explain something which seems so simple to an
idiot on the subject. i installed red hat and during the install, i ran
the XConfigurator thing and it detected my settings as 640X480. when i
select a higher resolution, and then test it, it fails the test. so, tell

Hi all,
First off I am a competent linux user (have been for over two or three years).

Yes, I have rebooted.
Yes, I did clean out the lock files, it just re-creates them.

I have installed a mylex 250 card in order to use 2 scsi disks in raid
1.
I can access the two virtual disk separatly but i can 't use my disks in
Raid 1. Under Linux i can see the status which indicates a strange RAID7
status.
If anyone, who have already installed this kind of card, can help me to
configure this card i would be very happy.
Thanks.

The drive is an LS-120.
Without creating the boot floppy, I can't run Linux at all. The two
files that are supposed to install to the hard drive do, but if I try to
open them I get garbage.
Is there a way to tell the installation, at the prompt to the startup,
that fd0 is an ide device?

Subject: Ethernet IRQ conflict - I'm stuck
Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 22:00:27 GMT
Hi,
Things used to work fine until I moved my 2 hard drives onto the udma66
slots
of my ABIT BE6 card and re-installed Mandrake. I also have 2 cdrom drives
installed on ide0 and ide1.
Now, my ethernet card doesn't seem to function properly. It still works
under windows. I have a Realtek card, and the driver being picked is
ne2k-pci.
I'm sure all my settings are correct. I'm an engineer and know my way
around computers. My best guess is that the problem is that the ethernet
card, and the HPT366 udma66 controller are sharing irq 11
(ide2=0xb000,0xb400,11 ide3=0xbc00,0xc000,11 are the boot params used to get
linux to recognize the HPT366 udma controller).
I've tried fiddling with the BIOS settings to move the network card to
another interrupt, but for some reason, the nic doesn't want to use any
other interrupt.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on where to go next.
Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem. I don't know if it is related or not. I have a

bash# /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 209.219.91.70
