It might be helpful if you gave just slightly more information! Like
what Linux distribution you have, what onboard sound chip you have, and
what you have tried. A very basic thing that people sometimes miss is
that under gnome you have to (as far as I know) open an audio mixer and
set the controls before you get any sound. Without more info on your
part, it is hard to guess much further.

My onboard VIA VT82C686A sound required me to get the ALSA sound driver
to run under Redhat 6.1. There is other info on sound on their website:

Set your mouse type in XF86Config to 'imps/2' and it should work fine. Do
NOT turn on emulate3buttons or it will screw you royally.

if you want to check just type echo $PATH

Hi...

Me, I've got a Futjitsu E-5142, a celeron 433, with a 64 Mb of SDRAM,
and a Rage Mobility Chipset, and i'm also running Red Hat 6.0 with a
kernel 3.2.29, and of course a pcmcia Ethernet card come from GVC (a
really cheap one but working fine.). But the only way to acces to my
video card in X (with KDE), is by using the latest Accelerated X Video
Card Server, and it provide driver for OpenGL for this card !

I tried this (I evt. found this info in the xf86 docs).
Ok, the middlemousebutton (MMB) works but it=B4s a bit ... strange.
Especially
in Netscape. When I press the MMB, Netscape starts loading another page.
It seems
the MMB click inserts the clipboard contents into the url-field. Hmm.
Maybe thats
just what it=B4s supposed to do. Well, I can live with this. I`ll try som=
e
other things.
Thanks anyway

Hi,

I am using redhat Linux 6.2
I have an SIS 530 video card, and a sony 17'' triniton monitor.

Redhat detects the Video card fine, and probes the monitor and comes up with
my default settings of

32 bit colour at 1024 / 768 which is great, it then says "starting X
server"......... there is a problem with your display please reconfigure.

ihave tried every configuration of the monitor, and I am looking for
suggestions.

Thanks,

I'm not sure 396MB is a credible capacity.
I think it's 384MB (128+64). If not, I can't find where the remaining 12MB are
hiding...

It should then be mem=384M

under X the middle button pastes the current selection.
It's at least its default behavior... just get used to it, it's great.

After looking through some of the documentation of the 2.2.16 kernel I'm
under the impression that the Adaptec 1130U2 raid card is supported by
Linux.

What I would like to know is if anyone has it successfully configured. And

What kind of MB do you have? I have a PC-Chips M748LMRT... with the modem
on a cheap riser (AMR). I don't follow PCTel's line... but I just want to
make it clear I don't have a regular 'card' PCI modem.

I have a PCTel HSP 56k modem working with SuSE 6.4... using a driver
compiled from source (MODEM.zip 4.27.100 at www.o2.net/~gromitkc )

It wasn't too difficult (for me?) to get this working... but you might want
to crack your case... and it'll be very clear whether or not you have a
winmodem from the lack of hardware on the modem.

It would be helpful to know which Linux distribution you are using... just
for reference and hints.

btw... I use 'wvdial' to dial the modem - much smarter/easier than minicom
(dinosaur)

I have a PC-Chips M748LMRT with built-in sound (C-Media 8738), network
(Davicom DM9102), video (SiS 620), and modem (PCTel HSP 56 (winmodem))...
all working with SuSE 6.4.

I noticed some quirks with the video when you have an 'extreme' amount of
physical RAM (128mb ok... but at 256mb... starting seeing relics). I didn't
play with things too long to try to 'fix' the video quirks... as I threw a
Voodoo Banshee card in, but I imagine I might have resolved things with a
some more time.

I second the vote on SuSE 6.4... but I have used it since 6.1. I have
RedHat 6.1 sparc running on a Sun sparc 10, but I wouldn't install it by
choice on an Intel machine. Have to agree with the comment about the *very*
nice manual if you're still figuring things out.

not to sidestep Linux... Solaris x86 is also a nice alternative... if you
have nice compatible hardware - and you can set it up like a Linux machine
with a bunch of GNU tools without too much work. Or... you could always go
for FreeBSD.

I've heard good things about Debian and Slackware... but haven't used them
personally.

work great in my experience - did you try compiling from source instead of
the RPM route? You can find the driver on D-Link's site.
