I tried passing card=6 - same result. Tried radio=1 too - no luck.
> you might want to make sure your modules are loaded something like
Did lsmod and all the relevant modules are there. Also tried to insmod
tvaudio.o and tvmixer.o - didn't change a thing.
But now I think this is more of a mixer problem - when I plug headphones
or speakers directly into the TV card output jack I can hear TV soud,
albeit with low volume. When I connect to SBLive! line-in I hear
nothing. Yet the mixer is set to record from line-in and it's at maximum
vol. What is even more bizarre is that when I connect a discman to
line-in and fire-up a recording program (I use yarec) I can record from
CD to wave file. But with TV on line-in and yarec I get only static in
the recorded file. The combination of xawtv and a discman on line-in is
also mute.
Another strange behavior I noticed - most CD-player programs don't work
on my system (only alsaplayer does, but it uses CDDA). Yet in windows I
can play CDs correctly, and the CD player is well connected to the
soundcard with the CD cable (the little one). So maybe my mixer is
somehow broken?
Cheers

I have a RH 6.1 installation. I installed an Intellimouse Optical in
the palce of my plain ol' mouse and it works well. As I don't care for
the wheel, this is fine. If I want wheel support I must make changes to
the X configuration.

Subject: Adding SCSI to IDE System Linux 6.2
Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 22:25:28 GMT
Got a question for those who have gone this path
before.
I just added an Adaptec 2940UW card to my linux
box that was previously installed on a 20GB IDE
drive. I've added 4 SCSI Ultra Wide hard drives
to the system. I only want to use the SCSI drives
as additional data drives and do NOT want to move
the install to the SCSI drives.
Upon the initial boot(after adding the card and
drives) the autoconfigure detected the card and a
screen came up and loaded the aic7xxx driver for
the card(which is the correct driver). So far so
good.
The problem is that I can't FDISK the drives.
fdisk /dev/sda returns "Unable to open /dev/sda".
I tried sda, sda1, sdb etc... Nothing...
So I then decide to see if the install can see the
drives. I boot from CD and start an install and
ALL of the drives are listed. I went ahead and
partitioned and formatted them and completed a
minimal install with no problem.
I'm back to booting to the IDE now and it's the
same old story, the fdisk utility will not see the
drives. I checked the kernel to see if the SCSI
module was loaded and it is.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any idea why
this would happen. I think I'm getting close just
need a little nudge.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've been trying to install a D-Link DFE530TX+ NIC without success.
According to the documentation I've found it is supposed to use the
RTL8129/8139 module, with no mention of any module options required. I
tried the module but can get it to work. During boot the kernel
diagnostics show the something like...eth0: RTL8129/8139 v1.08, etc...
and everything seems all right upto this point. Later, it attempts to
configure the device and fails with the message, SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource
temporarily unavailable. I've tried updating the file rtl8139.c, with
the one that came on the driver diskette, and compiled a new rtl8139.o,
but no success again.
System Details
=======================
Distro: SuSE 6.4, kernel 2.2.14, RTL8129/8139 module version 1.08
Processor: Pentium III 500MHz
M/Board: ASUS P3B-F
NIC: D-Link DFE530TX+
According to various web sources this card is supposed to work with
linux. Has anyone manage to make this card work? Any solutions to
making mine work?
Thanks in advance!

I think it's relevant to 3D Studio since a lot of the probs I myself
have experienced with two seperate KT133 boards were directly related to
3D hardware (nVidia, to be precise).

It'll be nice when they get the quirks ironed out of SMP and the price
drops a bit more to the point where you'll be able to put together a
dual 1ghz board (sans memory and all else) for around $600! I expect
another six months will yield some real tasty options.

I am using a D-link DFE530TX (but no '+'), and it uses the via-rhine
driver. I don't know about the '+'-version - but I would at least try the
via-rhine driver.

Next task is finding out if lilo can boot from a start floppy in this

Ive tried permutations of

That's odd. I have personal experience with three systems (two 650-MHz
Durons w/ FIC AZ11s and a GHz T-bird w/ Asus A7V), and none of them have
caused any problems that could be traced to the chipset. The GHz box needed
some updated drivers as the ones installed by the builder were a bit flaky,
but other than that, they've all run like clockwork. (The Duron boxen have
different ATI cards (one Rage 128, one Rage Pro) and the GHz T-bird uses a
Matrox G400. The problems people mention the most seem to involve Nvidia
and 3Dfx boards...could this mean anything?)

We run MAX 3.1 at work, so here is the readme addenum for the CPU issue:
(start here)
CPUs
Machines with non-Intel processors
The MAX Profiler utility uses Intel Pentium specific instructions so it does
not load with processors of other types, such as Cyrix or AMD CPUs. This
will cause a DLL initialization failure in acap.dll when loading MAX. This
utility is installed only if MAXSDK is chosen as an option in the custom
install. It is advised to remove the files "\3dsmax3\acap.dll" and
"\3dsmax3\StdPlugs\MaxProf.dlu" on these systems.
Machines with Pentium III processors
3DS MAX R3.1should operate fine on machines with these processors. You can
increase the interactive performance of your SZB driver by approximately 30%
by installing the special drivers tuned for this processor. While these
drivers have not been thoroughly tested and are not installed by default,
you can safely copy these drivers from the Pentium3 folder of your 3DS MAX
installation. Specifically:
Exit MAX
Copy the pentium3\heidi6.dll file from the CD to the MAX root directory
Copy the pentium3\drivers\szb6.hdi file from the CD to the \drivers
subdirectory of the MAX root directory.
This change will have no effect on D3D or OpenGL driver performance. Please
check with your graphics card manufacturer for the possibility of recent
driver updates that may also take advantage of Pentium III 3D instructions
in either OpenGL or Direct3D mode
Advanced Micro Devices Athlon® processors
3D Studio MAX Release 3.1 officially supports AMD Athlon CPUs. Please see
the minimum system requirements for more information about ram, video, and
hard drive requirements. For more information about the Athlon and 3D Studio
MAX Release 3.1, please visit AMD's website at http://www.amd.com/discreet
(end here)
So, if you don't have a 3D Accelerator, yes, you'll see big differences in
Software Z-Buffer with a P3.
But in rendering time, I think only the FPU make a difference. (only my
opinion)
Is the Athlon(Tbird and so on..) FPU beat the P3's? Here is the question.
Personally, I just wait for a dual-cpu board. Once you worked with 2 cpu,
you just don't want to get back to only one ;)

Add this to /etc/lilo.conf
append="mem=256M"
Then run /sbin/lilo

Intel has managed one good chipset in the last five years. The BX. And
for that reason, people deify them. Go look at the Athlon 1200/Duron 800

counter-argument to this, and no doubt more information and experience than
