When I run "sndconfig" on RH7, it tells me that my model is Aureal, and
semiconductor is "Vortex 1". Then it tells me that it's not supported...
I was just wondering if there's anoyone out there who has the same card
and got it to work. If so, how?
Thanks.

When I installed RH7 from the CD, it properly recognized my 128MB RAM.
After installation, I started using LOADLIN to boot into Linux. Since
then, my system only sees 64MB RAM. If I boot from the emergency disk,
it sees the full 128MB...
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks.

That may help. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall hearing that using
modules may be necessary to get sound to work. I certainly couldn't get
my SoundBlaster compatible card to work with it support (sb) compiled
into the kernel, but was able to get it to work as modules. Good luck.

Hello all,
Got a quick (maybe) one for you on a Voodoo3 3500 TV card. All I would
like to know is if there is any way I can use the TV tuner functions with
this card, and how to set them up if there's a way to make it all work -
I'd assume it would need to be done in X. Linux build information
below.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated, please reply in person.

Hello all,
I just recently installed Debian Linux 2.2 onto an Digital Aplha Server
2100 5/300. I am having a serious problem in trying to get X windows
loaded. I origianally had an ISA ATI Mach64 Video Card installed, I
thought that might be a problem, so I removed it. I then installed a
Matrox Millenium 4Mb PCI Video Card in the machine. They both work for
everything, except with *anything* that has to do with X. The Matrox
completely locks up the machine and I have to reset it. The ATI at least
kicked me back to the command line. Help!
I am on my third re-install now, I just left the entire X Windows
packages off this go around. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm not finding very much info on installing a GeForce2 card. All I see
are scattered reports of trouble with nvidia's drivers, which leads me to
two possible conclusions: either it's working fine for most people, or not
very many people are trying to use it yet!
I'm building a system and considering a GeForce2 MX. I have not picked a
distro yet. Possibly Drake 7.2 or Deb 2.2. I know enough to feel
confident about tweaking and rebuilding things if necessary -- something I
want to learn more about anyway so I can optimize for my processor.
So, does anybody have a GeForce2 card working in 2D and 3D? How well are
the OpenGL drivers working? What about the DRI thing?
Thanks for anything...

Hi,
I'm getting these errors appearing on the screen, and also in my
/var/log/messages file:
linux kernel: hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete
DataRequest Error }
linux kernel: hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError },
LBAsect=28083788, sector=28083725
linux kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda), sector 28083725
I thought that it may have been a crook HDD problem, so I've replaced the
HDD, and re-installed the OS from scratch, just to find that these errors
continue to occurr.
Can anyone shed some light on what they actually mean, what I should do, and
if they're dangerous...
TIA
Adam

I'm also using an Asus A7V with a 45Gb IBM 75GXP (Duron 700MHz processor).
I have been running this for a month and a half now.. I haven't had any problems
whatsoever..
Talking about the A7V.. it's a very nice card.. it's quite easy to overclock the
processor with it..
The dipswitches needed for changing voltage and all other parameters are included (not
every
card has this). The only thing you have to do extra is shortcircuit some vires on the
processor...
(this may be done by a normal pencil.. the lead will shortcircuit it... )
Guide may be found at www.tomshardware.com

When new features are added in 2.4 kernels for example,
some of them are desirable to be backported to 2.2 kernels. A
backport is a port from a newer kernel version to a prior one.

It's in the FreeBSD-stable kernel since a few months now.
It's not yet in the normal Linux kernels, AFAIK, but several
"distributions" deliver non-standard (patched) kernels; some of those
might have the ATA-100 driver included.

I'm having trouble getting any of the OSes on my second drive
to boot. The Linux distribution on /dev/hdc3 is a workable
installation, except for LILO. I can boot it from the floppy
created during installation, but when I try to install LILO,
I get this:
[root@localhost /etc]# lilo
Warning: /dev/hdc3 is not on the first disk
Warning: device 0x1603 exceeds 1024 cylinder limit
geo_comp_addr: Cylinder number is too big (36863 > 1023)
[root@localhost /etc]#
I know /dev/hdc3 is not on the first disk; what I don't
understand is why that is a problem. (I have a third-
party boot manager on the MBR on /dev/hda that at least
claims to be able to boot OSes on the second drive,
if they're bootable...)
I'm also rather out of my depth with the cylinder limit
thing. I thought Linux didn't have a problem with
large disks? It's only 30MB. Can I set up my (Award)
BIOS with a different drive geometry for it, or is
that likely to lead to lossage? (If it means I have
to repartition now, that's okay; the drive is new,
and I can still afford to reinstall its contents.)
Oh, one more thing: how does one mount a BeOS fs?

sure you can. you just have to have your hard disk hooked up to the
