What is in your lilo.conf?

I had similar issues with HPT366 patch of 2.2.16. My boot= and root=
had to be changed from /dev/hda5 to /dev/hde5.

You could try passing it the ide parameters as a workaround if the
kernel isn't configured to boot properly from the HD controller. FOr
example, I had to type ide0=0xb400,0xb802.

Install an ide hard drive, install RH7 on the ide and specify your raid
array.

When this runs you can move the ide and reinstall onto the raid.
Read the boot-raid-howto on www.linuxdoc.org.

Dear all,
I just built my Linux box with AHA29160 SCSI adapter and others as the
following:

Main Board: Abit VP6
CPU: Pentium III 800
RAM: 128MB SDRAM*1 + 64MB SDRAM*1
SCSI Adapter: AHA-29160
HD: IBM Ultra160 10000RPM 18GB
NIC: Intel 82559, 3Com905
OS: SuSE Linux 7.0 kernel 2.2.18 with ReiserFS filesystem

The problem is when I type "make dep" or "make clean" udner /usr/src/linux
the whole Linux hangs there.
Also when I use cpio to copy a big directory tree to another, the system
hangs. All I can do is reset the computer.
Is there any know problem about it? Any suggestions or comments are
appreciated.

Which method is right for me?
 1. Write all functions into Linux Device Driver exclude VGA function (
VGA function writed into X display driver )
 2. Write all functions into X display driver.
 3. Write basic functions into X display driver and others into library.

Hello

I have a Genius Net Pro on my PS/2 mouse port (the mb is an Abit BE6). It
used to work right after a while when I used XF86 3.36 with the Gentus Linux
(from Abit). But when I switch to Linux Mandrake the mouse no longer worked.

When I configure Mandrake with XF86 4.01 to use the Genius driver instead of
the standard PS/2 driver my mouse will basically get out of control when I
move it. Mostly it gets stuck in the corner and behaves erratically like
performing button presses without actually touching the mouse. If I use the
mouse as a standard PS/2 mouse then I don't have the scrolling abilities
that I paid for.

Is there a way of actually making this mouse work correctly under
Linux-Mandrake?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have a customer who wants a (Athlon-based) machine with four SCSI

y'know, i think that if cheap is what you're looking for, a used
system might be the best deal. you can get an smp compatible
sparcstation 10 or 20 (i think these can run up to 4 processors,
though plopping in an extra procesor or 2 or 3 will obviously cost
more), or an old sgi machine for ridiculously cheap prices sometimes.
keyboards, monitors, mice, ram, etc. can be a more or less of a pain
depending on what you want to do with the box. (and the box, some of
these beasts will work with pc or mac compatible stuff.) considering
what you get, pc hardware is kind of expensive.

Hi there!

I'm trying to build a Linux router box. But I am having big time problem
getting Linux to recognize the NIC. The board is a AOpen AP53/AX53. They
share the same BIOS. So I guess they are about the same. Pentium 133, 48
MB EDO RAM, ATI Mach64 card (tried a Alliance ProMotion AT3D card in case
there's a conflict with the NIC).

I've tried a Realtek 8029 PCI card. Also tried DLink DFE-538TX, which is
based on Realtek 8139. They won't work. I wonder if it's a Realtek chipset
problem. They both are PCI card. I don't have other PCI NIC.

modprobe ne2k-pci

It says that the PCI BIOS assigned IRQ 0 to the card! That doesn't make
alot of sense. I've flashed the BIOS to the latest version. I've assigned
an IRQ to the slot. But that doesn't seem to have any effect at all. Tried
modprobe ne2k-pci irq=xx. But I think the driver doesn't take any irq
parameters...

So I try the D-Link card. No luck either. Won't pick up the card. There
are some assertion stuff errors when I modprobe.

However, the SMC EtherEZ that I have works.

What else did I miss? Or what else should I try?

I'm using Linux Mandrake 7.2. Fresh installation. Bare minimum stuff.
Basic Linux + networking. No X. Didn't even install gcc/make/stuff like
that.

Please help/advise. Thanks for your time!

O.K. first part solved, IRQ 15 was mapped to PCI.
Tomsrtbt loads eata correct now, but isn't able to fdisk due to missing
partition table
SuSE detects the WD1003 emulation as hdc, hdd and occupies IRQ 15
eata load failes cause dev or resource busy.(irq15 is shown to be mapped
to ide1)
How to load from installdisk without ide probe?
is there any ide=noprobe?

I want to use my HP Colorado T1000e parallel port tape drive with
RH 6.1 and 7.0.

Having studied the documentation, it seems that I need three modules
'ftape.o', 'zftape.o' and 'trakker.o'. Both the distributions
mentioned
above have the first two modules.

However, I cannot find the module 'trakker.o' anywhere.

I have tried to compile my own version of ftape-4 from source, but it
always
fails with the following error messages.

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux-2.2.12/.config',
needed by `../../include/linux/autoconf.h'. Stop.
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux-2.2.12/.config',

needed by `.ftape-setup.d'. Stop.

Can anyone help with the compilation problem or point me in
the direction of help,
OR
point me to a source where the module 'trakker.o' can be downloaded.

Thanks in advance

Check out ports pages (esp those with the same processor family) and
do some searches. Most porting projects announce themselves in hope

The question is usually availability of specs and in some cases
MMU design etc.

At least with 2 controllers (aic7xxx and eata)
(3 controllers at all due to the 2742T is twin channel EISA )
i have no problems in a dual P120 SNI PCD-5T machine.

Maybe you will have to disable BIOS in all but one controller,
if you use 4 controllers of same type.
Check the controller manufacturer before, if multiple controllers are
supported.
If the machine still has enough IRQ resorces, it will do.
Easier would be to go for a multi channel SCSI controller.

hmmm, this is a Deskstar ATA-100 drive. Download IBM's drive fitness test and
see what that tells you; apart from that, try running a 2.4 kernel or any
kernel with Andre Hedrick's IDE patches included - that might bump up
performance as well.

You can find the drive fitness test (a DOS floppy-based program) at

customer's right, basically - if you attach more than one drive to a SCSI
controller than all data for the drives has to go over that single controller;
OTOH, most drives have a sustained data rate of about 40 MB/s (if you're
lucky) so a 160MB/s SCSI controller should be able to deal with 2 or 3 drives
easily.

We use Dell PowerEdge servers with 3 Adaptec SCSI controllers; the biggest
problem is that the Adaptec 78xx controller is not supported as well by Linux
as say the Symbios 53c8xx controllers.
