You might try any of several online auction sites... I personally like
eBay. Give 'em a look. [http://www.ebay.com/]

        Hi,
I am interested in buying a 3d card for accelerating OpenGL under
linux.

        What 3dfx cards are supported?
What cards work well with a ATI pc2tv pro turbo?

Are there any 3dfx cards that are both 2d and 3d accel, so I can chuck
my ATI?

AMDs and Cyrix do support SMP, using the OPENPic standard.
Small problem.
No one makes OPENPic motherboards. This may change with Slot A

Intel use APIC which is proprietary.
Everybody supports APIC.

I have this drive and have done nothing special to install it other than having
a disk in the drive when I installed Linux. It even ejects when I umount.Only
thing I can think of is that you have to append the device name with a " 4 " eg
 /dev/hdb4. Hope this helps

You have been fooled by windows. All modems speak Hayes commands. If windows
had a "generic hayes" option it would work with any current modem. You rarely
need more than an option for any hayes modem for most of the rest of the features
too. (FAX has been standardised and ATZ generally enables all speeds anyway).

Connect with kermit next time and keep a record of the prompts. This
will allow you to write a good expect script. There are 3 major
vairants I know of:

1st variation: authenticate with PAP when connected (what my ISP used to like)
ATZ OK
"ATDT <phone number>" CONNECT
[now hit pppd and it will use PAP, CHAP or MSCHAP]

2nd: unix shell and some portmasters (my ISP's current configuration)
ATZ OK
"ATDT <phone number>"
ogin: me
ssword: secret
[now hit pppd]

3rd varaiton: Various others sorts of annexes (old ECS annex)
ATZ OK
"ATDT <phone number>"
ogin: me
ssword: secret
otocol: ppp
[Now hit pppd]

me and secret are not a valid user and password combination. (Actually I
have 3 dail-up accounts at present...). My USR external olnly works reliably
with the lid taken off. I will be getting a V90 modem from someone other than
USR (according to my ISP people using USR modems have trouble connecting to
them).

I think your main constraint is software availability rather than card
availability.
AFAIK the only OpenGL software that uses hardware acceleration is
Metrolink's:

http://www.metrolink.com/productindex.html

They seem to support a large number of cards, but their product is not open
source
and does cost about $200. Mesa provides a free, open-source, OpenGl
workalike
but I don't know of any generally available accelerated back-ends for Mesa.

Snip all that. Download XFree86-3.3.3-1, also the XFree86-libs and
the SVGA server. Get the rpms off a redhat mirror if you use them.
Upgrade the server first, then the libs & XFree. Configure with
xf86config, no probe, no clocks, you are able to select the chipset
(#505, SiS6326), then MANUALLY edit the file XF86Config to uncomment the
VideoRam line under Section "Device", which it will not auto detect
correctly. Restart in 24bbp mode, some will NOT display text in 16 bit
for some reason TBA. There are some other settings you can tweak later
if you like.

   Checkout the dalsemi.com website (Dallas
Semiconductor). You could use the DS9097 adapter
($25, an adapter plug which plugs into a RS232
connector on any PC), along with a DS1820
temperature sensor ($6). The software to run this

I want to use my Linux system to handle voicemail, fax, and data. The
mgetty+Sendfax with Vgetty extensions FAQ section 'What does it look like
when it runs?' section says the the modem must be able to distinguish
between fax and data, and that not all modems do this. Does anyone have
recommendations for a modem that can? (preferably external).

I read the labels carefully and got a US Robotics/3Com v.90+voice, and
it does work all three modes. 'mgetty+Sendfax/vgetty' is a little
primitive, on the voice side in particular, and you may want to work
on your own front-end for it (as i am). Please see

        http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html

To find out which modems are known to work with LINUX and which are
LoseModems. Externals are good, if you can afford to pay the premium.

The old BIOS call to return the memory size used only to cope with a max
64Mb ram. There's been a new call available for a while, and presumably
the new kernel contains the new call.

1.3 gig hd for Linux. The hd is listed in the bios as lba with
c,h,s=620,64,63
But Linux sees it as a 'normal' drive and not as lba. So Linux lists
it as c,h,s=2480,16,63. But I want Linux to use this disk as a lba
disk. So someone told me give to the following boot parameter:

hdc=620,64,16

That seemed to help, because at boottime Linux uses these parameters
as chs values. But later on I notice that the data is corrupted. E.g.
the type of the linux partition isn't 82 but 92. And this was not a
typo from me when I was partitiong the disk. :(

Is this drive incompatible in some way or am I missing something here?

System:

AOpen AX6BC w/ PII-400 w/ latest bios (ver 2.10)
IBM DJAA 31270 Jafar on the secondary controller.

Grtz Gerben.
