I guess this feller does now about his power switch !

Dear Darryl !

Recompile the kernel (mine is 2.0.36, not sure if it works on earlier
releases) and select APM support. There is an option that will suit your
needs. If you activate Suspend mode, be sure to have the APM demon apmd
running, or else your system clock will play havoc.
See man apmd for details.

I saw a patch for this once. Don't remember what it was called, maybe
ovlfs or something. Look around places like linuxmama. I don't
remember if it was a generic VFS thing or if it was specific to CDROMs
(or isofs, to be exact) since that is what it was designed for.

Hi

My 400Mhz has a bogomips of 378.

You may or may not know that Bogomips is NOT a measure of processor speed,
it is just a calibration loop to measure how long it takes the processor to
do NOTHING (no-op).

So, careful with those Bogomips figures.

I use a Rage IIc and had similar problems with my Intranet Server on
my network. All you have to do is visit xfree86.org and download the
latest X Server for the Mach64 chipset. This new X Server contains the
support you need to run your card.

Pretty simple: Recompile (and install) your kernel with support for is09660
enabled.

Hi All,

I just installed RH 5.2, and XF86_SVGA update for my SiS6326 based
video card. It worked fine, except at all 640x480, 800x600 and
1024x768 resolutions the display only filled about 70% of the
screen(ViewSonic E771). I tryed to tune the dot freq. , other
resolutions, and other parameters but it didn't seem to help.
I also ran win98 on the same machine from different HD partition on
the same machine, and I could get full screen display at 800x600.
I know I can just tune the monitor to have the display fill up all the
screen, but just wondering if there's any configuration I can change
to do the same.

Thanks!

I should think that these devices would work just fine on USB. 1394
and USB are complementary technologies, just as plain-old serial and
parallel are. Use USB for low-rate devices like mice, keyboards,
UPSes, etc., and 1394 for high-rate devices like scanners, HDs, and so
forth.

I don't expect everyone to immediately discard all their old
peripherals any more than you do. Eventually, however, one must
succumb to progress. The PC99 spec includes USB, serial, and parallel
ports, but not ISA slots. If you're even in the middle of the
technology curve, a lack of ISA slots is not terribly
depressing--you've had several years to buy PCI cards. I wouldn't
expect USB and 1394 to completely supplant plain-old serial and
parallel for a similar time period from the point where both new buses
are generally supported in hardware and software (meaning,
realistically, whatever the current flavor of Windows is).

I tried that. If I boot dos and type fdisk I got the message "error
accessing device" and it terminated. fdisk /mbr did not help. I had to
replace the machine. I installed everything on the new machine and
NT and Linux now work, but I have to start Linux with a floppy. I did
not touch the MBR this time, of course.

If I try to start Linux by making its partition active this does not
work.
I get the message "no operating system". I have to use Toshiba's
companion diskette to format a partition that the MBR will sucessfully
jump to. I guess when Toshiba said they do not support dual boot
configurations this was not simply a way to make life easier for their
technical support people.

My best guess is that all of this headache is due to a subtle copy
protection scheme for Windows98 (which I delete!).

I have this model - works without any problems. For changing disc get
cdchanger-1.1 or something similar. The only drawback (but it's a problem with
all changers I suppose) is that you cannot switch to/from an emtpy slot.

Hi.

I am trying to build a new system, I have FIC VA-503+ M/B and a AMD K6-2

When I try and run the system all the fans start, the CPU gets warm and
the system beeps continuously.. about one a second between each beep..
and does not stop at 11. The only thing left in the case (now) is the
M/B and the VGA card, (I have tried three VGA cards, two keyboards and
two mice).

I have searched for beep sequences on the net, and the only reference I
have to continues beeping is bad power supply, I have replaced that and
no change.

Before I go mad and have to take all this stuff back to the shop, is
there anyone who can enlighten me on what the beeps mean.

Then you probably *have* had it start swapping with Linux too. But
the difference is that Linux works, won't crash, and you won't even
be aware that it's been using swap space.

I am a newbie. I have the following problem with the mouse. In XF86
with fvwm, after a while the mouse clicks no longer work to change
window focus or operate the control buttons (minimize, maximize,
close). However, the left button will select menus in a window, will
interact with dialog boxes and select links on web pages.

I have tried 3 different mice:
Old ('92) MS dove bar serial mouse
MS serial/PS2 ver 2.0 (tried as both PS2 and serial)
        MS Intellimouse PS2

I have tried various settings in mouseconfig for each of these. The
behavior is corrected by exiting and re-entering fvwm, but then occurs
again after a period of time ranging from 1 to 15 minutes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, and email would be nice. Thanks.
