Would it work in the first place with Compaq being so proprietary? I have a
ProLinea 4/50 slimline desktop. 32MB, 340MB HDD, everything else built on
motherboard I would expect.

Linux really needs a serious MIDI Interface with synchronization
to digital recorders.

I really like that iMac; not that I've actually tried to USE one. But what
the hell do you do if you want a bigger MONITOR? Any of you tried to run
Linux on that beastie? I have no beef against any hardware, provided it can
run Linux. OK, flame on. Time to go kill another 6-pack.

Date: 22 Jan 1999 07:42:14 GMT
I am looking for a video camera which I can hook up to my computer. I have
heard very good stories about the Eggcam made by Panasonic. According to the
QuickCam Third-Party Drivers web page at http://www.crynwr.com/qcpc/ that
hardware has Linux support. However, I cannot find any drivers or applications
on the net. Can anyone clarify this issue for me? Is there indeed support
for the panasonic eggcam for Linux? Or do you recommed an entirely different
device?
Thanks in advance

since I built it), up almost 24/7. Just finished compiling the new pre9

Well, since my V.90 external modem works equally well on my DEC Alpha, which
has no PC slots at all, my PCs, and my ancient Motorola 6800 system (my first
home computer,) I guess I'll just have to disagree with you. My only
problem comes in the fact that my 6800 system is too slow to make effective
use of the modem (the CPU in the modem is more powerfull than the CPU in the

We use a HP8500 Color Laserjet Printer (Postscript) on our Network which has
the HP Jet Direct built in. It works without Problems printing using it Linux
and Win NT.
You'll need an entry like this in /etc/printcap using the IP you assigned the
printer.
lp:postscript:\
:lp=/dev/null:sh:\
:sd=/var/spool/PS_600dpi:\
:rm=???.???.???.???:rp=raw:\
:mx#0:\
:sh:
If the printer does not support postscript, it's a little more tricky, as you
have to convert your jobs prior to sending it to the printer.

I ran a 3COM utility from Windows 95 that allowed me to SET the card speed to
100Mbs. It was configured for autosense. I then rebooted the system into
LINUX and was able to ping my subnet and outside my subnet. I did not know
that the system had the 3COM diagnostic utility on it. I have seen similar
problems with SMC 10/100 cards in Windows NT that would loose network
connectivity from time to time (b/c of the autosense feature). Thank you all
