The board is made by Decision Computer Peripherals, Taiwan
(www.decision.com.tw). They have code examples for VB (using a supplied
DLL), which is no use to me. I really need those C examples.

I seem to recall that Madge does have Linux drivers - try searching their

Try looking at www.adlogic-pc104.com
They have basically exactly what your looking for, but its pricey.
The modules are 3.6x3.8" and range from a 386 to a p166MMx. The MSM-p5s
is their top-of-the line one, with a p166MMX smart cpu, 32-64M ram,
VGA/lcd on board controller, 10bT ethernet, floppy, E-ide, 2M SSD, com1,2,
lpt1, hardware watchdog timer, pc/104+ bus interface, and an optional
3channel NTSC/PAL video input. All this in a package 4"x3.6"x.75", using
[EMAIL PROTECTED] at 100%... thats only 7watts, no fan/heatsink required.
Using the pc/104 bus you can attach other stuff to it, like a sound card,
net card, IDE flash drive, pc-card adapter, etc..
I requested their price sheet, but only got prices for their 386 and 486
models, accessories, and options. To give you an idea tho, a AMD386/33
4M ram, com1,2,3, lpt1, floppy, e-ide, watchdog, lcd/vga = $406
bulk orders are less

Subject: pcmcia module crashes laptop
Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 20:25:32 +0100
Hi,
I've got a Micropoint Ilission 266 Mhz. PII Notebook with 256 MB RAM. I'm
using the Redhat 5.2 distribution, which has the 3.0.5 version of the pcmcia
module. I've got a Psion Ethernet Gold card and so i've applied
pcmcia-cs-3.0.8, which supports this card. After compiling the kernel and
the new module the system crashes terribly when starting up the pcmcia
service. Only a cold reboot helps.
Does anyone have got a solid suggestion how to tackle this problem?

Where is mistake? How to fix it? Adding parameters ft_base_addr and

Try "route add default ppp0" or something like that. Do you add
"defaultroute" parameter to your pppd?
But it isn't hardware problem! ;-)

Subject: Two quickies about modem and NIC
Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 09:55:45 -0600
First, I currently have what Windoze calls an LT 56K modem. My computer
manufacturer (don't knock me, I didn't have time to build it) couldn't
give me any real info, but I think it's a winmodem. My gf has a 28.8
Sportster and was wondering if I'd do better off switching them.
Next, I also currently have an SMC EZ 10. It uses the RTL8029 driver,
but the manual says it's NE2000 compatible. Anyone using one? If not,
what about one of the following, Intel EtherExpress (I know it's
compatible, but is there any setup or will RH 5.2 get it immediately?),
or LinkSys Ether16? I have both, but they're in my roomie's and gf's
boxes, respectively.
Oh, and one last thing, will the driver for ESS1868 work for 1869? I
don't really want to use the one from 4Front since supposedly I'll have
to reconfigure it periodically.
Thanx for any replies,
Mike Ford

I'm presuming you want to move these files within the same box -- i.e.,
these partitions are on the same drive, just different formats. Linux
supports MANY file systems other than ext2fs -- FAT, FAT32, VFAT (?), and
HPFS, just to name a few of the more "popular" PC OS formats :) Sometimes,
that support is 'read-only' (at least, from the kernel) meaning you could
"pull" the data from one partition to another.
I've also read recently that there is a virtual file system/driver for
win9x that can read [and perhaps write, but "at your own risk"] ext2fs
partitions.

since you need to STOP running one OS in order to run the other, the answer
is "no". In a network environment however, this works (which,
coincidentally, is how and why Samba was designed...) [ok, stop sarcasm
mode, start blue-sky mode] I wonder if... Since MS claims windows is
multi-tasking, and we know Linux is, could some future computer setup
actually "switch" tasks between MS and Linux OS's? Nevermind for the
moment the technical difficulty in doing so [like deciding who gets
"control" of the hardware at any given moment in time] or the user
interface [is that a windows active-X control or an X widget you just
"clicked"?] Would going through the "loopback" interface "work" for
Windows/samba interconnectivity? Somehow I doubt it, because the windows
network CLIENT will NOT connect to the network SERVER if the CLIENT and
SERVER names are the same. [try it -- share a directory and then try to
open it as a shared drive on the same computer -- if this worked, I'd solve
a problem I have at home where I'm sharing a directory so that two people
can work on the data at the same time -- if I open it, the program things
the data is all on drive C:\some\directory\structure; on the remote
computer openeing the same project complains that the source files aren't
found, and "looking" for them finds them on V:\<rootlevel>. If I could
"connect" to my own computer and treat c:\.... as v:\, then my problem
would be solved...]

I run sndconfig and enter the settings. But then it says:
Error: There was an error running modprobe.
Is there really something wrong with modprobe?
I have an ESS Technologies 2306 PnP 3D sound card. I'm using Redhat 2.1.
I followed the HOWTO where i try to recompile the kernel but the command
"make config" doesn't work. I don't even have the
/usr/src/linux/drivers/sound directory. So, I try to isapnp and it wants
a isapnp.conf file, which i don't have. I only have isapnp.gone.
I just figured i could run sndconfig and enter the irq settings. But
this modprobe error always pops up. I really don't know what else to
do...

Sorry, but I don't believe there is any way to get this to work.
The printer is not directly HP Deskjet compatible.
The feature you read about in the manual is a DOS driver that lets the
printer look like a Deskjet to DOS programs. This isn't going to do any
good under Linux however.

I also got these errors on a Pentium MMX Desktop machine.
I only use Linux (2.0.33 patched to .35) on this machine
so I don't know if it functions under Windows or not.
I noticed that the brand of card I had specified that
the system must be capable of bus mastering, which might
have been the problem (ie bad or no bus mastering
support)?
If anyone can forward the information along to me as well
it would be much appreciated.

UPDATE:
I found some info on the Belkin website:
[QUOTE MODE ON]
Q: What is the PC and MS switch for on the bottom?
When the switch is in MS mode it sets it to a standard Mouse Systems
2-button mouse and the middle button in most cases does not operate.
When the switch is in the PC position it allows full operation of the
mouse but may not work with most 2-button drivers.
[QUOTE MODE OFF]
So "MS" means "Mouse Systems," not "Microsoft". Therefore, If I put it
in "PC" position, and use "Generic 3-Button Mouse" in the configuration,
it should work, RIGHT?
Gonna take a couple of vacation days and get this puppy workin'!
