Does anybody know how to share my windows modem to my linux box ( to access
the net from linux)?

The modem is located on a PC with windows 95 which is connected to my linux
server via ethernet

I 've allready tried Sygate, but I can't set it up properly. It says it
should work, but I'm a novice linux user.

Thanx,

Does it include full accelerated functions? I mean, it's not just a neomagic
compatible server, right? You get full use out of the chipset?

you should set some things in /etc/smb.conf, see smb.conf(5) or if you are
using samba 2.0 and you have a webserver running you could go to
http://127.0.0.1:901 (log in as root) and configure your samba via SWAT <--
verry easy

I think you just need to read a little docs

Gladly. You are wrong. :-)

Just because the support is stuffed into the SVGA server doesn't mean
that it's unaccelerated. I think it's basically an historical
accident that the (accelerated) support for many different cards has
been shoved into the SVGA server. For instance, that's where all the
Matrox support is, and many people claim that Matrox cards are among
the BEST supported under XFree.

I've been running a Viper550 AGP for a couple of weeks and it seems
quite zippy. By comparison, I've used S3, Matrox, and ATI cards, and
I'm perfectly happy with the Viper. I think it's remarkable that such
a new chip (that's really the important point here, not the card
brand) is so well supported. It can only get better.

The only one in my listing is the Canon MultiPASS C2500 color inkjet,
which prints fine at 360x360 using Ghostscript's bjc600 driver. I
don't know the "native" resolution of this printer, so I'm not sure if
you'd be missing anythign there.

I also don't know if the faxing/copying is supported in any way by
Linux software; I'd guess that the copying doesn't require host
involvement but that the scanning (if it does that?) would need SANE
support.

There's one other printer I have listed which you can get a "scanner"
printhead for, but I forget which one it was, and don't think SANE
supports it.

If you've found out any other information about this or other
"multifunction" printers, please let me know, or jsut update the
database online: http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/pht/printer_list.cgi

There is a section on exactly this in the Printing HOWTO (URL below).

There's also another section which describes how to make lpr run
filters (like Ghostscript) locally before shipping the job off to the
HP box; you'll probably want to do this unless you have a Postscript
printer on the other side.

Finally, HP has begun supporting some of their printer admin tools on
Linux, although it's only the web/Java one thus far. See

The Epson Stylus Color 740 will work using
 stc500p.upp (320x320) and stc500ph.upp (720x720).
under the uniprint driver. However this driver
does not use weaving. I tried a quick guess based on
stc600p.upp and stc800p.upp but only managed to
produce the usual dump of many pages ( i.e. printing
a data file as text). Hopefully someone will figure
 out the weaving....

run pnpdump, do something like

You'll have to edit isapnp.conf that it produces.

Hi James,

How did you get it to work? What server are you using? Can you get more than
16 colors? Will you share your /etc/X11/XF86Config?

Sorry for all the questions, but here we have many IBMs that have a trio 3D
and we couldn't get them to work with anything else than the VGA16 server.
According to the Xfree FAQ, that is the only server that supports the trio
3d. I tried also with the framebuffer device, but no luck.

I use apsfiler, with the printer configured as a ljet4, and it works.
I think apsfilter simply calls gs (ghostscript) if needed.
