Hi,

Try to add to the INIT string S95=44
then after the connection is established the modem would tell you
CARRIER 28800
CONNECT 57600

Or else see http://www.math.sunysb.edu/~comech/tools/CheapBox.html#modem
for the list of vendors who sell V.90 modems for $40-$50 and fly at
CARRIER 48000
CONNECT 115200

when attending server seminars (my friend is a regional "Top Gun" for
IBM service), and that fellow may be able to tell us more about the
situation. Again, I'll post whatever I find (even if it's bad).

hello everybody,

i finally have ghostscript 5.50 installed, but now I have less printer
drivers available so I had to add a driver for my epson 600 printer.
I edited the /usr/lib/rhs/rhs-printfilters/printerdb file and added the
last entry:

 #
#
# Unified Printer Driver
#
StartEntry: Uniprint
  GSDriver: uniprint
  Description: {Unified Printer Driver}
  About: { \
This driver provides support for several printers.\
For full details on its use see the file devices.txt.\n\
To use this driver you must enter the name of the correct\
upp file in the "Extra GS options" box.\n\n\
E.g. to get an Epson Stylus Color 600 to print at:\n\n\

             720dpi use: @/usr/share/ghostscript/5.50/stc600p.upp\n\n\
             1440dpi use: @/usr/share/ghostscript/5.50/stc600ih.upp\

  Resolution: {720}  {720}  {plain paper}
  Resolution: {1440}  {1440}  {inkjet paper}
  EndEntry
#

but the problem is that now i can even access my print tool
the window seems to appear for half of a second and then disappear
do you know whats going on?

thx for your help

Stephan.

I have checked and the following files really exist

I am having a hard time getting the afore mentioned card to work correctly. I
mean it works now...but only with the svga server in 640 x 480 mode. Makes it
look huge on my 17" monitor. I attempted to use XF86Setup but I didnt see the
server in the list of cards. Anyone got any ideas here?

[Please Cc: me on any reply since I'm out of town with limited
bandwidth at the moment.]

Hi all,

Does anyone here have sucessfully configured suspend to disk on a
Toshiba Protege 300CT notebook? I have looked all over for various
utilities, and cannot find one that does it. I don't have Windoze on
this notebook (Linux being my OS of choice), so I haven't ben able to
try out any Windoze-based utilities, although I have tried all the
DOS-based ones I can find.

Any clues?

I bought a $20 I/O Magic Magic-Sound 16 PnP card that indicates that it is
both SB and SB Pro compatible. I figured this would work with RH 5.2, but
when I run sndconfig, it is not recognised by the PnP prober even though the
card is PnP. I have to manually enter the irq and address settings, but have
yet to get it to work. Should I just return it to the store and get
something else? Any recommendations in the $20-30 range?

Cheers,

Ben

Is the linux partition tagged as active or bootable? It should be.

Sometimes adding the word 'linear' as the first line in /etc/lilo.conf
and then running 'lilo' will correct the problem.

I would be pretty shocked if make wasn't somewhere on your distro CD
(assuming you installed Linux from a distro CD of course).

Hello,
According to the documentation, Linux supports up to 16 processors. Are
there any servers out there that can run 16 processors? All I see
nowadays is four. The most I've ever seen is 8 and that was a DEC rack
system. Also, a kernel question. In a multithreaded app under Linux on a
multi-processor box, would threads get a processor? Ex: If I design a
server with 4 threads, and run it on a server with 8 processors, would
the four threads each get their own processor?

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I just downloaded and compiled kernel 2.2.3
using make dep clean zdisk. No errors occurred.
However, when I boot using the newly made kernel
on the floppy disk, it does not boot off the Ultra 33
controller as it should and gives a kernel panic.

I have enabled the boot offboard controller option
and am wondering what else I missed. The jumbo
patch, when applied to the 2.0.35 kernel, installed
the exact same offboard boot option, and works.

To compile, I ran make menuconfig, then after
setting the options, I ran

make dep clean zdisk
make dep clean zlilo also compiled a kernel with
no problems or errors.

On bootup, I believe it shows my HP Cdrom burner
as HDA which of course it will not boot from.

Am I missing something?

I'm currently running slackware linux
with kernel 2.0.35. I had to install the
'Jumbo' kernel patch before I could get linux to
boot off my Promise Ultra 33 IDE controller.

I'm currently running System Commander Deluxe 4
which allows me to run Dos 6.22, Win98 and NT40 as well
as Linux kernel 2.0.35.

My machine is a Pentium 233Mmx (Oc'd , no problems)
using and Promise Ultra 33 PCI driving Western Digital
6.4Gb(Master) and 8.4Gb(Slave). The onboard IDE controllers
are running HP 8100 Cd (M), Seagate 8Gb Tape drive(S)
Mitsumi 32x Cd(M), Zip 100(S).
Promise Bios shows 4 device positions with 2 used, all
okay and machine boots without any problems.

Thank you for your help.

That's a good idea. I bought a Vibra PNP card, and there's absolutely
nothing in English to help me configure it. I've seen some things
in German, but my German is pretty bad.

Until the Sound-HOWTO document has some Vibra configuration information,
stay clear away from the Soundblaster Vibra cards.
