That is not true !!! You meen irq 2 on the 1st controller. IRQ 9 is as good as
every other IRQ.

There's some problem with mapping the upper 512 K of the graphic card memory. If there
was no progress, you won't be able to get more than 8bpp if you have more than 16 MB
RAM. It's all discussed in the Cirrus-howto (or something like that).

Date: Thu, 06 May 1999 17:01:30 GMT

Greetings,

I installed an LS120 on my PC running Redhat 5.1. I rebuilt the kernel to
support the LS120 as well as FAT/VFAT filesystems. I turned off support for
the msdos filesystem. My problem is that I can mount the LS120, see the
files but not use them since they are corrupted. Part of the text in a file
is readable and part is garbage. There does not seem to be any pattern as to
whats readable and what is not. Anybody had this problem? Any suggestions?
I've tried mounting with specifying FAT, VFAT, ext2 and auto to no avail.

i wish there WAS some support for OpenGL in Linux for TNT cards.

then we could RUN THE F'UCKING Q3:ARENA TEST on linux
(3df(x) is old crap)
till then lets wait for win32 verison. (should be in couple of weeks)

i hope will some have some support from nVidia for OpenGL in Linux:)

Hi Paul,

for XFree86 < 3.3.3 you have to set
ChipId 0x4755
ChipRev 0x01

with XFree86 3.3.3 it works out of the box

does anyone know the specifications of the Hyundai HCM-428EV Monitor ?

i would like to know the maximum resolution, if it is a multisync monitor,
the horizontal sync range and the vertical sync range.

this data is needed for configuring the X Server under linux, so any

Thanks for the reply. But I did install from the redhat-6.0 dir of two ftp sites

(because I wondered if the first site accidentally had an old version under the
new name). Not only do I not have kernal 2.2, but I can't even find the
file/patch/whatever in /usr/src. There is a dir there for 6.0, but it's empty.

May I ask where you downloaded 6.0?

Thanks for your reply. But help me here: I need the new kernel's
files/patch
to rebuild, right? There is only an empty 6.0 dir in /usr/src. So how
can I
rebuild the kernel from nothing?

The rpm2html database at rufus.w3.org is running on a K6. Dunno what their
load is like.

The K6 should be OK in theory, because AMD's main weakness -- FP , is
(almost always ) a complete nonissue when it comes to serving webpages

I had similar probs with XFree86 wanting to write funny modelines.
With the right software, you can write a custom modeline in your XF86Config
file.

Try downloading my modeline program from

http://pegasus.rutgers.edu/~elflord/unix/

and write yourself a sensible modeline. ( for example , modeline -v 75 -g
1280x1024 for a 75hz 1280x1024 modeline )
Also, delete any modelines you aren't using from the XF86Config file.

cheers,

I'm also a fan of external modems. The problem is that they are not an
option at a lot of PC shops.

Of course, you can save yourself the hardware
compatibility worries by just buying from someone who will sell you a
machine with your favourite OS preloaded ...

(Disclaimer: I've never done this. I just heard it's possible. Smack
me if my description is technically wrong.)

A windows box converting the input data to .PRN files or such which
are then printed, whether locally or on an lpd server doesn't matter.

Hm, then it's probably not a GDI printer.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but in my recent experience a
mildly overclocked Celeron will give you the most for your money. A lot
of folks have been getting 300A's, tweaking the voltage a bit and running
them at 450. This is pretty cool but sometimes it doesn't work and the
300A's have been discontinued and are disappearing fast.

Almost as good, and a lot more comfortable, is getting a Celeron 400
and running it at 450 by clocking the memory bus at 75 Mhz. I recently
compared this setup with a 300A/450 machine doing Linux kernel compiles,
and found it to be only about 1% slower.

If you don't want to overclock, consider getting a good Super 7
motherboard with a cheap K6-2 and plan to upgrade to K6-3 after their
prices come down a bit.

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Please help with several unrelated linux/hardware problems & questions
Date: Thu, 06 May 1999 19:50:04 GMT

I have several problems with RedHat 5.2 and my hardware plus a few other
questions. Here goes:

1. I have a throw-away AGP S3-Virge video board. When I start X and go to
the xterm window that's already open, then type ls -la. There's a very good
chance that the entire machine will lock up. Typing commands eventually
causes this problem. I have to hit reset to get the machine back. Now since
I paid a whopping $25 for my video board, I suspect that's the problem. SO!
Please excuse my ignorance of the FAQ and ask which cheap video board is best
for X? I'd like to keep it around $50.

2. When I install RedHat 5.2 onto an IDE disk, it works perfectly the first
try. When I install RedHat onto my scsi disk, I get a kernel panic while
booting. I suspect the reason for this is that there may be no scsi driver in
the kernel I'm booting with. I find this odd thought since the RedHat knows
I'm installing to a scsi device. Any suggestions?

3. I got Quake3Test to work. (woo hoo!) But the performance is real bad at
first and the video is very choppy. And this is with a voodoo2 SLI setup. It
is hitting the disk fairly hard, but I wouldn't think disk activity would have
that much of a hit on quake3test under linux. Is this just a memory/swapspace
thing fixable by another dimm?

4. Can I do raid with multiple identical disks and a plain old scsi controller
with linux or do I need an actual raid controller?

5. Anyone know where I can get a cheap/refurb multiprocessor motherboard.
Like 4 486 CPUs? or even better 16 386 cpus?

Thanks.

brian

I've no idea if you can get this kind of cases nowadays since most of the cases
that I've saw are the towers or mini towers.. I do think that you can get those
rackmount cases which take propietary/custome motherboard but I think it can
perfectly fit into your stereo cabinet.

I have an AMD K6-3 400. Using ASUS P5-A 100Mhz bus board. Never ever
received any 11s. Installs are beautiful, and system is rock solid.

You may wish to try upgrading BIOS, and I hate to say it but try installing
Win9x to see if you are having problems with your processor, crashing. But
then whos to say that Win9x just plain sucks and crashes on its own...
