There are two drivers known to run the 5700. See this printer's entry
in the Printing HOWTO database (URL below) or skip straight to the
software at http://www.ultranet.com/~setaylor/papers.htm and

I'm working on outfitting a new system and am trying to choose a
mobo/cpu for it and I was wondering what suggestions people might
have... Does anyone have much experience with PII chips vs. AMD-2 chips
(or other brands)? Does one work better or worse with Linux
(RH5.2/6.0)? I have a whole pile of nice old cases (towers, mid-towers,
etc.) but they all have AT power supplies. I understand that the PII's
usually come on ATX mobo's. Has anyone dealt with these issues?
Advice?

Alex,
As long as the sound support is compiled as a module you do not need to worry
about settings. My AWE 64 works fine with sound compiled as a module.

I want to install Linux on a Kayak pc. It has a FastRaid card which
supports Raid 0/1. Has anyone configured Linux to run with this
card/controller?
Also, If I add another harddrive, can I boot both Linux and NT? Are
there any restrictions (who must go first, what drives to who, ....)
Thanks

Actually, my impression is somewhat of the opposite; Nvidia has released
all of the source code for their chipsets, but 3dfx still has only allowed
Daryll Strauss access to their developer specs. So in other words, there's
only one person working on Linux support for 3dfx, while Nvidia has
released basically everything (according to what I've read).
Now the reason why I ask my question is because basically, I want to see
which has a "better chance" on Linux. I'm guessing it will probably be
Nvidia for now since their code is open and their cards have support for
large textures and can render in 32-bit color. Any opinions, anyone?

Can anyone tell me about a 56K external digital modem that works with
Linux?
I want to use this modem in a dial-up connection to my ISP and all I've
found so far is a internal MultiTech MT5634ZPX. It has an ISA interface
& gets 56K on downloads only from a V.90 server.

It's not really a question if they work well with Linux, it is
more if they work well with SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy). Check out

As far as I know, a Linux version for the Palm Pilot and even one for

develop a 'Pocket Linux' for Palm-size PCs? (I mean this devices running

If not, I would like to know if there is a way to synchronize

Try at Multi-tech's web site. I had the MT5634ZPX modem you mentioned, and it
wasn't bad. I kinda liked it. They probly have another offering that could be
what yer lookin' for.

You may have a problem with the built-in video, and for the ethernet, enable
hardware flow control. It's possible to kill both of your machines even with a
10mb NIC.

Yes. Be careful, tho. Sometimes you need the 370 kit (20 to 40 bucks).
Remember, there's more than 1 model Celeron, and if you have to buy the kit,
you might as well buy the PII

You can get the supported card listings here. If you have an S3-based card,
chances are that it's good to go with the standard S3 server. If not, you may

Hey,
Just got a nice 19" Viewsonic G790 Monitor. I need to upgrade the video card
to take full advantage of the higher-res modes, but for the time being, I am
running in 1024x768 on the S3 server, 16bpp.
My question is, since the monitor is not listed in the XFree86Setup, is there
a monitor I could choose which would match the settings of my own monitor
to very closely.
Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problems with RH6 and Win95, only not as bad. I get a
similar message in Linux:
> ide0: BM-DMA at 0x3000-0x3007, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:pio
> ide1: BM-DMA at 0x3008-0x300f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
>hda: WDC AC31600H, ATA DISK drive
>hdb: WDC AC34000L, ATA DISK drive
But then I get an additional message about successfully resetting the drive and
then everything works fine.
However, I'm not so lucky in Win95. Trying to Explore my CDROM usually causes
the entire system to crash....
If you find out the problem, I'd love to hear from you.

to be the most common problem. As a side note... I have one up and running no

with the right surgery or slotkets, yes. I run 3 dual cel 300a
systems at home - love 'em! ;-)
which mobo are you choosing? I found the asus p2b-d to be the least
trouble for dual cel's.
if you o/c them you should expect to bump the voltage up to 2.2. all
mine needed this.
the asus board has a 66/100 jumper. this helps a lot. other brands
force you to cut a trace or deal with a bios error msg that makes you
HIT A KEY TO CONTINUE (nasty for offsite servers...)

Breathe a sigh of relief, it is NOT a Winmodem.
