I tried executing the shell sb1kinst.sh, after answering questions about my
isp, it looked at my ioports and irqs, and said it updated my isapnp.conf.
It still failed on the sb1000.c, however. When I ran isapnp isapnp.conf , I
got a new failure, didn't know what to do with (check). So I removed the
check from the end of my two ioports 0x0110 0x0310 and it ran successfully.
gic1000/70180004180 surfboard network adapter:ports 0x110 0x310;irq11
enabled ok
Now I believe the problem with sb1000.c, is this patch I need.
sb1000-1.1.2_127.patch
Does anyone know where to get this patch...
Thanks again.
by the way, I still don't see 0x110 or 0x310, nor irq11 assigned when I look
at proc/ioports or interrupts. Shouldn't I see this, I rebooted and all.
The isapnp.conf file is located in directory etc, should I do something
else?

I don't think that is true.
It works perfectly well with my Asus TNT2 card (AGP-V3800).
What doesn't work perfectly well is Xconfigurator and xf86config.

I agree that that is probably the best way to go.
However, XFree80-3.3.1 (SVGA server) does in fact work with TNT and TNT2 cards.

I have seen no evidence that TNT2 is _not_ backward compatible with TNT.

The 528 uses the RealTEK 8029 chipset... very generic..
try looking in /proc/pci to see the IRQ/PORT info and then
load ne2k-pci with those values. It will work under Linux, I have setup
a few under Linux... I didn't have any problems though :)

Firstly, it is not necessary to re-install the OS when you run into trouble
like this.
If you are now at the point where you get the "errno=111" message, peruse
http://www.xmission.com/~howardm/Xwoes.html
You need to analyze the error messages you get when you "startx"
as described on that page.
If necessary, post the results of X -probeonly and the relevant sections
of your XF86Config file.

Howard Mann.

There will usually be no problem if you use a small (10-15 Meg)
/boot partition which is entirely below cylinder 1023. If LBA
is available and enabled in your bios, your drive will have
effectively about 1600 logical cylinders.
(You will probably find large-drive installation much easier
with a later version of Linux like RH 6.0).

1. If you want to change your screen resolution, re-run
XConfigurator and specify the resolution/color depth in
the relevant dialogue window.
2. You can specify the geometry of a program's window
in a .Xdefaults file in your home directory.

Subject: Abit BE6 (ATA66) Question
Date: Wed, 04 Aug 1999 03:35:02 GMT
Hi there,
I've searched all through Deja and could not find any mention to
this motherboard. The question is about the built-in ATA66 controller,
which is on-board but is a separate controller (aside from the standard
two ATA33 channels the BX chipset provides).
Does it work on Linux? If so, do I need to recompile the kernel or
something to add some driver?
I'm asking because this can be the difference between going for a
(cheaper) BX6 Rev. 2, that doesn't have ATA66. I don't see many
advantages in ATA66, and if I can't run Linux on it, then my doubts are
over. :-)
On a totally different matter, anyone knows of any effort to write
drivers for Aureal's Vortex 2 chip? I bought a card with that chip, and
all I've found about it under Linux is that OSS (the paid version) will
have support for it, sometime in the future... that does not look very
promising (maybe I won't dump my good'ol SB16).
Please, when answering, send a copy to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or,
preferably, to [EMAIL PROTECTED]), as I do not read this group...
Thanks in advance, Marcelo.

One solution would be to add the insmod command to /etc/rc.d/rc.local
file. I'm using RedHat, but I think Caldera has the same boot process.

I don't know if this is exactly what you're after, BUT:
If you know which three pins of your seral line are pertinent to the
status of your UPS,
you can easily change the little daemon I've written to work with your
particular
hardware. It also works with any number of "client" workstations that
are on the same
network.

Hello,
I have the following hardware/software setup.
Intel P-II 350 CPU.
192 Meg Ram.
S3 Virge video card
3C509 ethernet card
Adaptec 2940UW controller.
2 4.5G hard drives.
Adaptec 2910 SCSI controller
SCSI CD-ROM
Exabyte 8200 tape drive.
RedHat 6.0 Linux. As yet, with no updates.
2.2-5-15 kernel.
When I boot the system, I get the following error message.
Enabling Swap Space [OK]
can't locate module st
INIT: Entering run level 3 yadda yadda yadda.
I'm assuming this has something to do with the tape drive? Any obviously
simple answers?
Also, I'm planning on adding 2 9G drives to this system for data storage.
I have the OS and httpd server setup on the existing 4.5s. I'm merely adding
the 9Giggers. I read somewhere that either Adaptec doesn't like drives larger
that 8Gig, or that Linux doesn't. What's the skinny? Am I doomed?
Thanks in advance,
Lyndon
