Hi everyone...
I'm seeking specs on the Compaq MV400 monitor, included in a package with
the Presario 2276 (in Australia, at least). I've tried a number of
different newsgroups *and* Compaq tech support (both e-mail and voice),
without any avail. Specifically, I need to know:
- Monitor bandwidth
- Horizontal sync frequency
- Vertical sync frequency
- Driving clock frequency (dot clock)
- Horizontal frame length
- Vertical frame length
Anyone who could supply me with any of these figures, it would be much
appreciated. Although if Compaq themselves can't, well, who can? ;-)

Can't configure it is a very broad description. Perhaps a description
of what you have done to get it working would help. Also, if you are
experiencing what I think you are, you might like to check out
nvidia's site for an updated driver. I have posted detailed

At first when i install my mandrake 6.0 distribution the modem works fine
because i haven't activated isapnp or tried sndconfig yet...my modem is a
zoom56k (not a winmodem) and my sound card is a SoundBlaster AWE32 ISA...in
windows the two work fine..the modem is on com1 on irq4 and the sound card
is on irq5...i know the modem works fine..and if i take the modem out and
run the sound card then the sound card works fine too...but when i try to
run them both i am told in sndconfig that the io conflicts with other
resources and Kppp says my modem is busy! i would be ecstatically grateful
if someone could help me out..this problem has been plaguing me for a
while...please send any help you have to my email address and we can
communicate that way...i'm assuming i'm going to have to shut off isapnp
and configure things manually using setserial or something like that but
i'm just way too ignorant right now to figure that out... :) thanks

I have the latest Voodoo3 Linux drivers as of now and I installed Q3Arena
Test 1.07 and it worked perfectly with Mesa3.1beta2 except I couldn't
change graphics options. This is probably just one of my stupid mistakes
(I'm a linux newbie). But even without changing graphics options it worked
and looked perfect. 3dfx have the best supported cards under Linux lots of
games support glide and Mesa is free OpenGL for the 3dfx and it's great.
Voodoo3 is the way to go in my mind. The only downside is not beig to play
games at 32bit color, but there isn't much of a difference between 16 and
32bit color. And the Voodoo3 is king of 16bit. It's 16bit output is much
better then any other cards. I like my Voodoo3 and under Linux there isn't
anything better.

To get the drivers compiled couldn't you do the make config, make bzImage amek
modules again after making sure you tell the system you want the 3Com drivers
in make config? You wouldn't really need to use the kernel - just copy the
modules to the lib/modules/x.y.z/net directory.

Reply-To: "mikes" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
I'm running RedHat 6.0, kernel 2.2.5 on a my SMB server. I have recently
added an IOMega 400M tape drive. I connected the tape drive according to
IOMega's instructions: floppy drive on the end of the cable, tape drive on
the secondary connector. The computer's BIOS has only one of possible two
floppies enabled for 1.44 3 1/2 floppy (aka /dev/fd0 on the SMB server). The
IOMega tape drive has it's jumper set to the default setting, which worked
fine for my Win95 machine (where I pulled the tape drive from). I have tried
to enable taper with the following command lines:
taper -T zftape
taper -T ftape
These didnt work. So, I "guessed" at mounting my tape drive: mount
/dev/qft0, and reran taper. This also failed. I kept getting an error
message from taper stating: " No such device " any time I try to access the
drive.
So.. is it just me, or is my configuration wrong? What command can I use to
tell me whether or not I have support in my kernel for my tape drive? Is my
IOMega 400M a supported device??? Note: The IOMega 400M is not a SCSI
device, as far as I know...
Any help appreciated, Thanks in advance....
-Mike
According to the FAQ.txt for Taper 6.9:
" 4.2. I get a No such device error when trying to backup or restore.
You have not enabled support for your tape drive. If you have a SCSI
tape drive, make sure your kernel was compiled with support for CSI
devices, support for SCSI tape drives, and support for your interface
card, enabled. Also make sure that you have edited the Makefile and
removed the '#' in the line '#DEFINES=-DHAVE_SCSI' and then re-compile
and re-install.
Also, if you have a SCSI drive, make sure that it is turned on when
you boot Linux. If it isn't turned on when you boot, Linux won't
register its presence, and even if you turn it on after, it may still
not work.
If you have a floppy tape drive, make sure you have ftape, and you
have installed it with "insmod ftape.o". "

The HP 812C is *NOT* a Windows printer. I've been using an 812C with
Linux for several weeks now and it works fine. The quality of photos is
incredible!
Sorry, I don't know which of the latest printers are Windows only, but
if the printer says it also supports the Mac or some old version of DOS,
then chances are it is not a Window-only printer.

More than likely you'll need a new motherboard. If the system is sensitive to
heat its time to swap some components. If you want to verify whether it's the
motherboard or not then take a can of air, shake it up and spray some of the
areas on the board that seem to be the hottest. If the system can be rebooted
and work well for a time (until it gets hot again) then you've identified the
failing component. I use to use this trick during component level
troubleshooting days (when we swapped chips - not boards).

You may be SOL. A 486/50 is (by technology standards) an ancient machine. The
motherboard's BIOS may not be able to handle the larger drives. Refer to the
HOWTO on using large hard disks but again - older computers may not be able to

The code hasn't yet been released, so any claims would be premature.
IRIX, the OS on which XFS is already in use, has been doin' the 64 bit
thing for some years now, which suggests that they had already coped
with the issue.
We can't know for sure until the sources are available, but if XFS is
integrated atop the Linux VFS, it is liable to inherit any limitations
of VFS.

SGI XFS would not resolve the issue.
The *actual* issue is that the standard struct used for referencing
files on 32 bit platforms provides only 32 bits to indicate position.
There is a LFS API based on the one designed for the UNIX Large File
Summit; you must recompile programs to use that API, and are likely to
lose on performance on IA-32 if you do so. Some FSF/GNU tools make it
fairly easy to do that recompile when the software was specifically
designed to be portable; Milage Will Vary.

FWIW, I have an obsolete Motorola PCI modem (ModemSurfr) that works with
Linux. It uses the Rockwell chipset.

Of course it ain't a winmodem. You just said that it is made my Amquest.
Amquest would have their ass sued if they called it a winmodem. As to
whether it is a real modem, the answer is of course not.
HCF is another nickname winmodem.

Hello,
I just found a solution:
I simply disabled "wide negociation" in the bios of the 2940U2W for my hard
disk (which is not "wide" of course).
I could install Redhat 6 and also Mandrake 6 !
Good luck !
