Go to the nVidia waeb site. They make RIVA-TNT2 video cards. You can get a
functional driver. It doesn't usr all the card features, but it works.

I have a Diamond Viper 770 card with the same chip.

Okay, there a way to do this. It's not har but a little strange.

There is a text based browser called lynx. Just type lynx and it will
come up on your screen.

Of course I'm assumming you know how to get to a text based connsole.
If your booting straight into X try [control]-[alt]-[F2].

I hope this helps.

I'm using a TNT2 M64 just fine. Got Quake2 running 800x600 in
OpneGL!!!

Hi there,

It's the 3rd week that I spend on my computer not being able to
hear anything coming out of the speakers! I really need help. I use
Red Hat 6.0. My sound card is Sound Blaster PCI 128 (sound chip
es1371). I'm also sure that the card is supported since I've seen it
explicitly mentionned as such on many official sites.

The 1st thing I tried was to use the sndconfig tool to configure
my card. Everything was just fine except that the sound test didn't
work. So I manually picked up the right card (still in sndconfig),
which was the sound chip es1371 and tried the sound test again. Here's
what it said:

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: init_modules: Device or
resource busy

So I quit the sndconfig tool and try to reboot. The following
error message came up:

        Loading sound modules
        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: init_modules: Device or
resource busy [FAILED]

From there, I tried to manually load the sound module es1371.o
using the command:

        insmod es1371.o

which gave me the following message:

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol
unregister_sound_mixer_R7afc9d8a
        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol

        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: unresolved symbol
unregister_sound_midi_Rfdab6de3

Not knowing if this was good or bad, and seeing that sound was
still not coming out, I asked a friend to give me a couple of lines of
his conf.modules file. At that point my conf.modules file looked like
that with the last two lines copied from my friend's file (replacing all
"sb" by "es1371"):

        alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
        pre-install pcmcia_core /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
        pre-install sound insmod sound dmabuff=1
        options es1371 io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330

I tried to boot again. The following message appeared when
booting:

        Loading sound modules
        /lib/modules/2.2.5-15/misc/es1371.o: invalid parameter io
[FAILED]

I'm really out of options. I'm fairly new to linux (only 1
month) and has searched the net, read HOWTO's, FAQ, Newsgroup, used IRC
#linux & #linuxfr. I'm out of options and ideas. I really need help.
If you have ANY idea please tell me about it.

Thanks,
Jonathan Jette.

Good ol' RPM... Yeah, I just ordered a copy of "Maximum RPM" so
I can figure out how to make the RPM database happy when I install
my own kernel, tar.gz files, etc. Hopefully the book will be as
good as others have said it is.

Have you gotten brave and tried the --nodeps flag to get the RPM
to install anyway?

Man, with that much hardware there wouldn't be enough time to
go hang out by the water cooler! ;-)

We've got Ultra1's on the desktops (1 CPU, 256MB) and Ultra2's
in the server pool (2 CPUs, 2GB). We use all of the resources
the servers have available for big chip layout jobs. And we
want more! :-O

Date: Wed, 8 Sep 1999 02:59:03 GMT

I'm using an interesting kludge to get around this for now: After all my
sound modules including cs4232 get loaded, I have the rc.local file issue
'rmmod cs4232' and 'modprobe cs4232 irq=5 io=0x530 dma=1 dma2=0' to unload
and reload the module. It's not graceful, but sound works.

Funny you mention the MPU. I noticed a note in the addendum to my HiNote
User's Guide that mentions that enabling the MPU if I do not have a
wave table installed results in no sound at all. So I used the BIOS to
disable the MPU and I still had the same problem.

Thanks for the response!

Yes you can.

However, note that some of them may still be in use.

There is usually a cron job that removes files that haven't been accessed in
the previous 2 weeks. Check to see if any of the files are over 2 weeks old.

Hello All! This question might be a off topic, but I don't know any

X? I am using Diamond Viper 550. I think if Viper550 works with the

if my video card supports LCD monitor.

I have been trying (read that *really* trying) to get this IDE CDRW to work and
so far I have had no luck at all. The CDRW is recognized first as an IDE-CD
and then when the scsi is initialized the drive is recognized by the IDE-SCSI

I don't know if I'm just plain out of luck or I'm doing something wrong setting
this up.
I have read the CDRW How to from http://www.guug.something or other, I have
build kernels with different options and it seems like the drive is always
recognized as an IDE drive first even when IDE-ATAPI CDROM was built a module.

First of all, what does the output from cdrecord mean and are there any other
tricks out there to help me burn a cd?

I should add that I can access a regular cdrom in the drive under ide-scsi
emulation without any problems but I get the error message from cdrecord so I'm
all confused.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I know there were some SCSI cards that had to have the AIC7xxx drivers
installed to run.

Hadn't gotten that far yet... Gonna do a tape backup of the system
tomorrow, and save my SMB config and raid config files to another
computer for later re-installation (fought too long and hard to lose
them!) then try and install from a true RH 6.0 CD the whole system...
UltraPenguin 1.1.9 is nice, but it seems to be slightly skewed from
mainline RH 5.2 for Sparc... And it seems no one has anything
specifically for the UltraPenguin build as far as apps go, whereas the
RH 6 has plenty of source to compile and plenty of rpm's.

Our desktops are Ultra 10's with 512M ram, 2 9G internal drives and an
external 9G disk pak.
They run DOME MD2PCX video and run 2 2K res mono monitors on all but 3
stations, and run 4 of the monitors on the last 3... These are in a
hospital and we are turning the X-ray department filmless... The doctors
actually read the patients X-Rays, CT and MR scans off the high bright
2K monitors, and it's better than film... they can change bright and
contrast on the images, zoom in etc. Hospital has spent over $10
million thru my company so far, and has several more phases negotiated
and ready to roll for about another $5 million.
