Subject: comtrol RocketPort PCI
Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2000 17:18:38 +0900
Hi.
Has anybody managed to get the above card (comtrol RocketPort PCI) working
under Linux?
I think it somewhat work well, but some problems remain that I will explain
below.
We are developing Embeded OS, so using serial to upload OS boot image from
linux to other platform(ex, SA1100).
We usually set baud rate 1152000, from PC serial (Linux RedHat 6.0 kernel is
2.2.14 upgraded) to target board(SA1100). When I set the baud rate with
'setrocket ' like 'setrocket /dev/ttyR0 spd_vhi(115200bps), serial
communication failed. Crashed characters could be seen on screeen when
debugging. some error returned like EFAULT(definded in
/usr/include/asm/errorno.h) which indicate "bad address")
Is it because of remapping ability in RocketPort ? (please refer the README
file below)
=========================================
README
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
==============
For backward compatibility with the conventional serial driver, and
previous versions of the Comtrol RocketPort/RocketModem, the driver
supports the remapping of 38400 baud to either 57600, 115200, 230400
or 460800 baud. If you are using external modems attached to a
Rocketport Card, note that not all modems support speeds faster than
115200 baud --- check your modem manual for more details.
In addition, "setrocket" can be used to remap 38400 baud to 460800
baud.
If your system has a recent shared libc installed *and* your
communication programs have been recompiled to take advantage of the
higher baud rates, then you may not need to use the remapping option.
However, the use of 460800 baud will still require the remapping
option until the appropriate changes can be propagated into the
kernel, libc, and communication programs so as to support this speed
directly.
=========================================
Any of baud rate could not be done successfully.(But direct connection of
two PC(between Hyperterminal(win2k) and minicom(linux)) succeeded)
How can I do?
What should I check?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Did someone have success to get RedHat 6.1 working on a
Compaq Armada E500 Notebook? I'm having problems with the
graphics card (no suitable graphics mode) and network interface
(Compaq Netelligent 10/100 PC card). Autonegotation failed. It
uses 10 Mbps instead of 100 Mbps.
Thanks in advance.

> You'll have all kind of issues!
All depends on the hardware.. good harware will tolerate a 133 MHz bus. In
fact, Via's new chipset natively supports it. If you want to overclock, all
of the issues brought up are somewhat valid. But not everything will be
OC'd at 2x.
The PCI bus will run at 1/3(133) = 44.3 MHz (11 Mhz out of spec)
The AGP bus (assuming you don't have a nifty MoBo that has a 1/2 AGP
divider) will be: 2/3(133) = 88.6 MHz (22 Mhz out of spec)
and the chipset, as mentioned at 133 (33 Mhz out of spec, assuming it's not
a native 133 board).
Couple notes to make: Hard Drives are part of the PCI bus.
Memory is part of the System (or Front) bus.
So, PC100 ram will be running 33% out of spec. Do you know what rating the
chips are in it? PC133 ram is rated at 7.5 ns. The rating for your ram is
what it's guaranteed to run at. 8ns ram readily overclocks to a 133 MHz FSB
(Fronst side bus, the main system bus)
And if you're using older hard drives, you might have to take it down to pio
4, but that's a rare case, if you use good and tested hardware.
Remember, every element of your system has to hold to these new standards
for it to work properly.. the system is as strong as it's weakest link.
Hope this helps!

did you try 'everything' to set it up yet? (xf86config is probably the
safest - in terms of not locking up your machine - if you know all your
hardware specs)
You might also have XF86Setup... and I guess 'Xconfigurator' if Mandrake is
very similar to RedHat.
Also... I don't know which version of XFree86 Mandrake 6.5 is shipped
with... but you should upgrade to XFree86-3.3.6 if you don't already have
it.
finally... check /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc for tips on configuring your card

Yes, it does make sense. You cannot do so with NT because your options
with NT are limited, but with Linux there are actually a few tricks you
may wish to try.

So find a dynamic overlay for your drive that will overload your BIOS even

We are trying to install Redhat 6.1 on a SunSparc IPX and it keeps
hanging while installing the packages.
As far as we can tell there is a core dump being produced (a file about 6.7Mb?)
Mainly it happens when installing ldconfig, but occasionallly gets a little
further
but only to 11 packages from about 300.
We're not exactly sure which model of Sun Sparc IPX it is (dates from about
1992)
docs seem to refer to "sun4c" type names etc.
We have 64Mb memory, have tried installing from floppy and CDROM,
tried various levels of install from bare minimum to fully automatic.
We've tried 2 base units, 3 cdrom drives.
No error messages.
bsh is in one screen and after hang, it pauses for a few seconds but then
responds
normally. (We assume this is while the dump file is still be written)
Any help appreciated

The actual page is at
<URL:http://www.keytronic-europe.com/products/mouse.htm>, but Netscape
4.x can't render it - presumably because of the missing </table>
tag. Mozilla M14 renders the page fine, and it appears to the mouse
discussed earlier in this thread. Unfortunately, you can't buy one
direct from the keytronic site, and no dealers are listed.
Does sound good though. Comes with swappable buttons, including a
proper three-button set.

Hi,
afaik sound support is not compiled in standard (ie pre-compiled)
kernels of the SuSE distribution, ie you have to build your own kernel
and to enter the respective data of your sound card. (see SuSE support
database, keywords 'sound' and 'kernel', or the sound-howto).
