That may be expensive insurance. But easier than finding out the specs
for the factory part.

I'm one of those who raided a 486 for two of these bargains, which I
want to remain bargains, not become money pits. I'm not aware of
problems. I do have to wonder just how well-speced the memory must be as
it is being read, I think, no faster than the printer is spitting our
pages. (How many zeros to convert ns to minutes? As for writing to
memory the Intel onboard is a 33mhz i960.

RE: Size: I think anything less than 40mm tall will fit as the final
angle is obique. Or try this:

Cut a piece of cardboard larger than that, ink the outer edge, insert it
in the memory slot, and put the unnecessary plastic cover back on, and
see if the outer edge has touched. Or cut down an expired credit card,
and get out a ruler and measure the depth of cover and the protrusion of
the the inserted card.

I know this may be reckless, but if I had a 3" tall 64 meg 72 pin simm
laying about, I would try it and use it even if it meant not putting the
back cover back on. --

Hi All

I've installed a very small Linux (slackweare) on a single board PC (Arcom).
It uses an STE bus interface. I have the SETHER STE bus network card and
this is based on the NS8390. Has anybody sucessfully written a driver for it
( the 8390.c on it's own will not work). If not any generic tips before I
set out on the long road of module writing.

TIA

Chris

One more observation about factory parts and even the after-market
suppliers. I just went to crucial.com, no doubt a fine company. And
Crucial part numbers for memory of the same size for the Optra Color
series (4 models) changed with every model. I think it unlike that
Lexmark or Crucial engineered each of these printers to use different
memory. --

Hagenuk Databox SpeedDragon. External ISDN TA with 3 analog ports.
Because of the connection via the serial port, the SpeedDragon can be
used as a "normal" modem. Price ist about DEM 299,-

Subject: Sound card problem: Ensoniq ES1371 audio PCI-97 chip set
Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 16:28:09 GMT

I cannot get my Sound card to work! I'm running SuSE Linux 6.3.
I just recently purchased a Dell Dimension. I have:

   3com c3509B ISA ethernet card.
   Soundblaster 64V PCI Sound Card
32 MB NVidia tnt2 M64 graphics card (it isn't plug and play)

This is what I did:

(0) Checkted that the board is seated properly and that the wire from
the board to the
       CD-ROM is attached.
(1) lspci -vvt to get the chip set
(2) rm conf.modules
(3) edited /etc/modules.conf:

       commented out:

       # alias char-major-14 off
       # alias sound off
       # alias midi off

       uncommented lines under es1371

(4) modprobe *

(5) enables system sounds in KDE | Settings | Sound | System Sounds

(6) rebooted

(7) no sound! even though the correct module is installed.

YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECITED!!!!
Please email your answer to

thanks very much !!!!- Elaine
