I feel the same way about the Palm -- it's just a fancy Rolodex to me.
However, the mere fact that it could be done is reason enough to try. I
seem to remember hearing someone got Linux or BSD to run on a digital
camera and another on the Sega Dreamcast. They're a camera and a video
game console for God's sake! ;-)

Most digi boards have native kernel support these days. I'm not
familiar with the board you describe (it sounds like some sort of
daughter board???).
Digi even has a linux mailing list; you need to visit their web site.

Is there a Linux program that makes a cd image in the CDRWin format, namely
a .bin file with a .cue file?
If not, how can I make a cd image in Linux that can be written with Windows
software?

You may need to use Microsoft's 'bigfdisk' (handles 32-bit FAT), instead of
the older version of fdisk (16-bit FAT). 'bigfdisk' is a utility that you
should be able to find on the web; it might be available from Microsoft's
ftp site.
OTHERWISE: if you have a Linux boot disk, have you tried to boot into Linux
and run cfdisk?
(Not sure if you can do this easily, but cfdisk is superior to either fdisk
or bigfdisk.)

WTF is the "CDRWin" format? Have those idiots made yet another silly name
for an ISO9660 image? Without knowing the ins and outs of whatever
boneheaded program you're using to burn CDs in WinXX, I can tell you that
"mkisofs" could be what you want. That creates an ISO image file from a
directory tree or trees, and you can burn that ISO file directly to a CD
using "cdrecord".
mkisofs has options for adding Rock Ridge and Joliet extensions to the
ISO9660 standard, so both WinXX and Unix users can see long filenames and
such. Check the documentation of the WinXX burning program to see if
there's a way to burn an ISO image directly--there should be, but the
option is often hidden because it's "too complicated for Joe Luser" or
something...

The only way that the BIOS can detect a virus (as it can't keep a
complete list) is by detecting when a program is trying to do
something which it might not - in this case, writing to the master
boot record (boot sector viruses do that). However, if this happened
during the install, then it is fine, as the operating system also has
to write to the master boot record when it is being installed (in
order to start when the computer does) - in this case LILO.

Try 'mem=128M' as a parameter to LILO (see another thread currently

I wouldn't worry about Linux viruses too much; as long as you use root
only when running programs from trusted sources, viruses can't do much
damage, and are therefore almost unheard of in Linux.

If you haven't already, please inspect not only lilo.conf ( then running
/sbin/lilo after making any edit changes), but /etc/fstab and verify that
the devices in the file system table are consistent with what is being
requested be done in lilo.conf.

I was also amazed that there was an rpm driver, through Dell's web-site,
available for this card. I was skeptical at first, but sure enough, 3 commands
later, sound was booming out from my system. Get it here:
