There's a name I recognize. What kernel are you using Mr. Heskett?
I've got an ancient Multisound Classic that works just fine with
2.2.14, but gives me a very nasty "oops" when I try it with 2.3.99-pre3
(which is getting very close to a 2.4; there hasn't been any activity
on www.kernel.org for a day or three). The driver for this card is
available to be compiled in to the kernel, or loaded as a module, but
the result is always the same: the kernel tells me it can't handle the
paging request. The irq is "clean," the ioport likewise, and I'm
stumped to the point where I might just go out and get a new soundcard.

Have you played with the 2.3.x kernels at all?

Glad for a month of never switching back to win again,
I just realized that only the LCD works with my
xfree config. If I plugin a monitor, the LCD shows
just a green horizontal line and the monitor nothing.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance!

i have a quick question for you about micro-distributions. i'm
trying to put linux on an old compaq contura laptop. i don't
know what model number because it was given to me. anyway
there's no cd, no pcmcia, no network connection. i have access
to a parport cd-rom, but can't find a micro that supports it.
do you have any suggestions on a distro that might work? i've
tried (so far) tomsrtbt, mulinux, and smalllinux, all to no
avail.

Yes, that's annoying, the fact that the latest version of this card
*requires* a hacked tulip.c. Check out

You could just compile it into the latest kernel by replacing its copy
of the file. Could you post the error messages you actually get.

Wow, it gets very low marks (1.5 out of 5.0 overall) in LhD:

I kept waiting for somebody a bit more experienced than I to throw
something out, but I haven't seen a reply yet, so here goes.

I've got a pic-2, and the attached file works for me. Not great mind
you, but it works. I've been more or less waiting till I hear there is
a kernel available that supports the buddha card, which is where I'd
been stuffing all the linux stuff all along, not realizing it wasn't
available once booted, so I haven't been able to compile my own kernel.
I've recently switched out a 1g for a 6g drive on the scsi buss, so its
possible I could partition 500 megs or so as FFS and move it that way.
Time is getting hard to find though, and the linux box on the next desk
is so much faster.

This one does what it does, very well, running ados.

Cheers, Gene

We'd love to work with you. We have a lot of driver lists already, and
are in the process of upgrading that section of our site. Sorting them
by "maintaner" or "organization" would be a neat feature.

It's extremely unlikely that this is a WinModem.
There are other "supraexpress" items that *are*, though:

What are the problems you're having with yours, though? It's not in

Hmm, what did you "split" it with before Debian? This is IDE, do you
have the right (LBA, most likely) access mode for large disks set?
If you don't have anything installed, you might try reformatting the
drive, then installing Linux first, and Windows second.

Ummm... To use the utah-glx drivers (or the drivers from nVidia) you
need XFree86 3.3.5/6 (depending on where the drivers came from)... There
are currently no hw accelerated 3D drivers for nVidia's chips under
XFree86 4.0 (although nVidia keeps promising them soon).
