Well, I was kinda embarrassed so I didn't mention it before, it was just a
typo problem. I had the driver set to 3C59x , and the actual driver is
3c59x. Case sensitive. And I have been working on this for a couple of
months. It's always something obvious.
but after I got that set up I everything worked fine. I now have
ipmasqerading running smoothly(at least so far). So there seem to be no
problems with this model card.

Hi All,
At www.aiptek.com all I found were Windoze drivers. Does anyone know
how (or where to look)
to get this (cheap) pressure sensitive graphics tablet working with
Linux (specifically
Mandrake 6.1)?
Thanks,

Have you tried searching TUCOWS/Linux and Freshmeat? A quick search on
TUCOWS gave me Kwav2cd but there must be others.

The following page list graphics tablets which work with XFree86:
http://www.XFree86.org/3.3.6/xinput3.html#4
I think a serial port wacom tablet is the way to go. I used to have one
of those Aiptek tablets but could never get it working under Linux nor
would they every respond with technical info for me to code it myself
so I eventually sold it to someone...

I'm new to the Intel platform.
I've got an old 486DX that I want to set up to act as a router and web
server. I seem to recall that there are some limitations as to the
maximum size of a hard disk with old equipment.
What's the scoop? I've got an old IDE card with a 1.6gig Maxtor on it
now. I'd like to get a much larger hard disk ( >10gig ).

Get the DNS How-To and set yourself up a caching name server. My Linux
box loads web pages so much faster than the Windows box I have. The
Windows box has a 150 Mhz faster processor too.

Gilles,
You need to do these for the CDRW to work uner Mandrake .
1) On konsole as root type #cdrecord -scanbus to see if your CDRW
is recognised.
2) next click your current CD-ROM icon on your chosen desktop to
see where the CDRW is link to .. example /mnt/cdrom
3) then as root type the following ..
cd /dev && rm cdrom && ln -s scd0 cdrom
you will be prompted with - delete cdrom ? Y
This will then creates a new symbolic link scd0 to your CDRW.
There is a good tutorial and how to at www.linux-mandrake.com
I hope this helps.

I haven't found a software capable to aquire from command line, something

Can you help me to find a software or something like this description?

I would like to report an incompatibility problem.
Few days ago I tried installing RH6.2 on a Machine with the following
features:
MBoard: MSI-6199Via (Via Apollo Chipset)
CPU: Pentium 3, 667Mhz, (Bus rate 133MHz)
Memory: DIMM 128MB, (Clock F. 133Mhz)
HardDrive: Western Digital 7200RPM drive model WD153BA
Display Adapter: Voodoo 3, 3000
Sound Card: SBLIve Value
SCSI adapter: SymBios c810
SCSI drive: SeaGate 2.0GB
Network Adpt.: RTL8029 PCI
Results: Successful installation, but when booting with the floppy I
get:
boot: linux......
Error 0x10
I tried installing on either IDE drive or SCSI.
I know for a fact that the SCSI drive and Adapter used to host RH6.1 in
an older machine.
I tried installing text mode, expert mode, also giving some parameters
e.g.
boot: linux root=/dev/sda1
always the same result.
I also tried another kernel by installing RH6.1, this was even worse as
the installation
did not complete, (either text or graphic)
However, in every attempt to install the system recognised the
display adapter and both drives with partitions.
I think there is a problem, but I don't have enough hardware to pin
point the problem
I believe it to be either:
1. Mboard, or it's Via Apollo Chipset,
(yes I know that basically linux support other boards like Tyan
Trinity 400 as a Via Apollo board)
2. CPU is too fast.
I await to hear from you soon, or maybe you should tell me what is the
e-mail I should send this
message to, in order to report a problem.

Well, I've read the applicable threads(very few), read the two blurbs on
the caldera FAQ site, read all the HOW-TO's and still can't get ftape
for a IOMEGA 3200 TR-3 to work. Here's what I've done so far.
Installed programs(obvious)
loaded modules ftape and zftape
configured ftape to use IRQ 6, DMA 3, and address 0x360. That's what I
have it running at in Windoze. BTW it works fine in Windoze 98. This
is running off a Ditto Dash Card. I don't have the floppy controller
enabled, I'm using a LS-120 and no floppy.
Did a makedev ftape according to Caldera's FAQs. Here's the list in
/dev
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root date ftape -> qft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date nqft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date nrawft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date nzqft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date qft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date rawft0
crw------ 1 root root 27, date zqft0
I then downloaded the tr3.bt file from BRU's web site and merged it to
/etc/brutab. When I run BRU-PE as either user or root, I get a bunch of
error, from mount errors to permission denied errors. Has anyone got
this drive working? If so, how? Any and all help would be
appreciated. If you need more info, ask.
Thanks, Jim

I have purchased an Advent Laptop which apparently has an SMI 910 Lynx 4Mb

different results each time. In general, as much as Xfree86 v 3.3.6 says

unuseable. Am I doing something wrong ? (My laptop model is Advent 7240

Im thinking about installing my old Adaptec AHA2940 with an old 2GB
SCSI2-drive (10MBbte/s) for temporary data-backups for win98 next to two
further ATA66-drives.
Does this set down performance in general or just at the time its
active(while writing to/reading from the drive)
Thanks
For the Linux group:
Can I locate the /boot-partition(cause of the 1024-zylinder-border) to
this drive without loosing performance? That is, without loosing performance
once Linux is running, not while booting, of course. Or does Linux need the
/boot while already running or sth?

Nope. LS120 is a floppy, it doesn't have partitions.
/dev/hdc is the way to do it.

I can understand exactly how you're feeling right now. My husband got me
some nice voice-activated software for my computer for Mother's Day. It is
collecting dust. It works great until you get it completely configured to
your voice--then the computer crashes requiring a reformat. And I know it
has to be all the fault of that diabolical sound card!!!! (Now if I only
hadn't promised my husband that he could have a new computer before I did
any upgrading of the hardware on mine....)
Seriously, I think melting it down is too good for the thing. I would
suggest hanging strings and little bells off of it and giving it to cats to
play with. Although just handing it to a dog to bury comes to mind too.
Pleasant thoughts, hmmm?

Good Afternoon,
We are having trouble upgrading a pool of PCs from Windows-3.1
to Linux.
The plate on the machines say
IBM PS/ValuePoint
466 DX2/S
Installing and running Linux was easy,
but we cannot run X11 on them.
SuperProbe says:
Chipset: S2 86c805, C-Step (Port probed)
Memory: 2048 Kbytes
RAMDAC: AT&T 20C491 15/16/24-bit DAC with gamma correction ...
When we install the S3-Server as X-Server, the machine hangs.
It even cannot be rebootet with Ctrl-Alt-Del
When we install the SVGA-Server, it only runs in a
resolution of 320x200.
Does anybody have a hint what we can do?
Thanks in advance,

I went through the same seduction... 8586C. I just took out the combo
card altogther, put in my old USR modem in the one free ISA slot, and
bought an AudioPCI for $30 for sound. I triple-boot the machine among
win98, win2k, and linux no problem, and it performs very well indeed in

It's tempting to have some fun... but I took mine out in threw it into

hardware, cabling, lightning-struck modems - doesn't everyone have one?
