Hi you all!
I have got a new HD to my PC, but, when I start to install RH6.1,
it says that the boot partition is too big, even I create a 1MB
partition!!! My old harddisk was perfect, but it was a Samsung ATA33
running on a pcchips (duh!) motherboad without ATA66 support. The new disk
(a Quantum Fireball 20GB with ATA66 feature) simply doesn't work with
RH6.1... Any help?
Thanx!
Sorry, I have a poor english!
Leo.

The examples I gave for ATAPI and SCSI Emulation were 2.2.x based
because that's what I use, not because EIDE streaming tapes don't run
under 2.0.x
There are probably 50 other solid reasons to move to 2.2.x however.
Free advice: do not upgrade. Start fresh with a 2.2.x distribution,
minimum 2.2.16 kernel.
I believe there was a good 2.0 -> 2.2 upgrade HOWTO available [redhat].

You need to remember that the various ATI cards are not totally different.
Many of the current ones are based on the Mach 64 and should work with that
driver even if it doesn't support all of the features. That is, you
shouldn't have to fall back to SVGA because your new card is not
specifically supported.
X 4.0.1 xf86config lists #31 "ATI Mach64 3D Rage Pro". I would try that. I
really don't think it makes much difference since most of them use the
Mach64 driver any way. The drive appears to probe the card to see what
features the chip has.

Have you tried the Mach64 driver? I don't know if it will work but you should try it

I've used the Alteon cards which worked fine under 2.2.x. The Jes
Sorensen variants seemed to be the most reliable. The pro/1000 linux
driver is here:

Under the early 2.2.x kernel/driver I was only able to get ~22-23 MB/s
out of a point-to-point FDX setup. Also tested Alteon (2.2.12) <->
pro/1000 (Netapp 760). Note this was well over a year ago.

Subject: stable PPGA Celeron Mobo for Linux?
Date: 2 Sep 2000 03:06:50 GMT
I'm in the process of formulating the hardware for a new Linux specific
server machine. Currently, I run a dual Celeron Abit BP-6 mobo that's a
bit twitchy. I want this next machine to be *ultra-stable*. I'm hoping
to use a single PPGA Celeron for the low form factor, as I'd like to put
it in a 2RU (rack unit) case.
So can anyone recommend a mobo that meets the above criteria?
If the above can not be found, particularly at a reasonable price, I might
consider using my current Abit board with one celeron, and buying a new
dual slot-1 (slot-2?) mobo to be my main machine.
Can anyone recommend a *super-stable* dual slot-1(2) mobo to use under
Linux?
Thank you for any recommendations or suggestions you might have.

Debian should provide a bootable kernel image for your CD-ROM interface. It is
*not* a standard IDE drive, since you say it is attached to the "Panasonic"
interface. These are ancient and proprietary (pre-dating IDE CD-ROMs) but
should be supported. I know Slackware provides bootable images that are
suitable. Your distro should have info about "Making a Boot Disk" or something
like that. Follow those instructions using whatever image they recommend for
"Panasonic" CD interfaces. (Or try different images until you get one that
works.)

Check the motherboard jumpers again (and again, and again...). The first time I
built a system myself I had exactly those symptoms because I had the motherboard
jumpers set for the wrong CPU type. I was *sure* they were right, but when I
returned the mobo/CPU to the vendor, they changed a couple jumpers and
everything ran fine.

H i,
I am considering this configuration and I am just curious befor I commit to
my purchase what professionals think of it. If you could recomend another
config please post it. The system will be for a tech student so dual os
compatibility and value is more important than performance.

Yeah right. I think I'll disengage on-board sound and go out and buy

Where is a good place to get good used 3c509 cards? I usually get used
hardware from deepspacetech.com but they only have a couple of these cards
left. I might be looking at getting 6 or 8 of these cards. I figure there
must be other places online that sell used hardware.

Date: Sat, 02 Sep 2000 04:56:24 GMT
I'm running Linux Mandrake. I'm installing on an older Digital Prioris
server and I can't get Harddrake to function. It starts, scans, flashes the
names of several installed pieces of hardware and then exits without any
message. When I activate it from the Konsole terminal I see the error
message of "Segmentation Fault (core dumped)".
Harddrake ran fine on my main computer. I've reinstalled 5 times now.
Until I get it working I can't fix my NIC. The system is almost pure Linux-
I only left 100 meg formatted as DOS and designated the active partition so
that LILO will boot (it had trouble with the old SCSI hard drive formatted
over 1 gig).
Any ideas?
