Use acs99xx external RAID controller, you can get the information of
this raid controller from http://www.accusys-inc.com If you want to use
1 terabyte storage, you must use external storage enclosures then you
need not install RAID card in system.
Alpha system has some advantages and disadvantages than intel based
system.
Advantage is you can use big file ( > 2GB ) easily than intel system.
Intel linux has some limitations in using big file above 2GB. If you
patch kernel, you can do in in intel system, but in my experience it is
so unstable in intel system.
But in alpha, Ultra-160 is not supported in internal SCSI controller
yet, I know.

Hi Trevor,

Sound like a winner. Let hope the extra price means
that it will stay working for a while (CD-RW writers
tend to fall apart on me, which is why I am looking for
a new one).

Are you able to play a music CD on it yet? And, what
player are you using?

Many thanks,

I didn't mean to be personally insulting, but you're starting to sound
like somekind of Anti-linux, microserf paid to write linux-bashing FUD
trying to scare away newbies reading this newsgroup. Linux is harder
than other OS's, particularly when compared to Win9x that usually comes
preinstalled on brand-new hardware specially picked out by the maker,
and comes with a stack of windows-only drivers on CDs. The real issue is
that linux does so much more than windows ever can, and is Free. Is it
worth the effort for you to learn it? Maybe, maybe not, but if you are
going to continue with linux, then you should be prepared for a little
work and some reading.

If you are really Finnish, and not deep in some bunker in redmon, then
congratulations, because the only finnish I know is thorvald, and that
is just a guys name, so you're way smarter than me on that.

Steven,

Find your IRQ by typing: lspci -v
That utility will list all your PCI appliances with address and IRQ.
You need both to set up a modem. Then use setserial to set the IRQ and
address

Recently my mouse pointer started having a black line, pretty thick,
following it around. It sits right with my pointer and oscillates randomly.
In addition, my screen sometimes pixilates with odd colored pixels and
lines. They don't obscure my view, but they are damned annoying. It has
done this before, but it always went away, but now it has become permanent.
What can this be? What can I do about it?

Greetings,

Does anyone have a definitive list of the number of different
architecture's that the Linux 2.4 kernel support's? I mean everything
from the IA-64, i386, MIPS, Crusoe, etc...
Optionally...is there also a definitive list that M$ supports? I'm
trying to compile a comparative run-down of the two.

Thanks in advance,

What runlevel are you running?

Try changing your line to

S1:2345:respawn:/sbin/uugetty ttyS0 DT38400 ansi

This is similar to what I use on my IBM 3151.

I have compiled and installed squid 2.3 and I get this error.

squid -z

FATAL: none: (2) No such file or directory
Terminated abnormally

I have read the faq and install manual, and I have checked the config
file for errors, nothing shows.
The syslog shows the same error.
Is there something I am missing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

you didn't quite say what the problem is or how it came about....

at any rate, i have at some point in the past restored Win98 from
a tar ball (upgraded the HD on a laptop) and they only thing i needed
to do was boot from a Windows rescue floppy, and run the command
        SYS C:
and windows booted again. I realize that tar does not quite preserve
some ofthe Window specific flags (e.g. R/O or Hidden or Archive) but
despite that, it did work.
On the other hand, I tried something similar on my new Dell laptop, and
it failed miserably.... I've basically lost windows, can't play DVDs
anymore, but hey, i have an extra 3GB diskspace :-)

Does anyone know the magic words to stop cups while in the middle of a
print job? Neither 'cancel -a' nor 'lprm -' seem to have any impact. In fact,
neither does killing cupsd either. The on/off button works only until it
is turned back on.

Hi Hal!

Cups is a wonderful tool... if you read the documentation. LEt's do it
easy and go for the graphical admin.

*Get a web browser. Better a graphical one, that supports HTML 3.0 or
4.0. Like Netscape 3.x or better,

*Point the browser to the address http://127.0.0.1:631

*Administer your printing system effortsless.

Note: for some tasks, you'll be asked for your "admin" username and
password. User "root" and "[your_root_password_here]" should work.

BTW, I love CUPS. You can admin it thorugh command line (documentation),
web and QT-based interfaces! Of course, remote and local admin is
available.

And, of course, make sure that you do **not** have the old lp daemon
installed.

Salut,
Sinner
