Did you install LILO on the MBR?

Any luck with the onboard network card for this board. I have the Intel 815
EEA2 and I believe the network chip is 82865. I got the video to work with
linux via Intel's web page. Do a search for "linux video" (I dont have the
exact link handy) and you should see the links to the 815 video page. It
requires the 810 driver which I believe is already include in XFree 4.0x and
you need agpgart to be loaded as a module. There was something a little tricky
with the XF86Config file setup but it is outlined in the release notes from
Intel (believe it or not). I havent tried to get the sound working...not that
important to me.

I have a very simple question. I got installed IOMega 100MB ZIP into PC

There's a mini-howto on www.linux.org under documentation that outlines how
to do this. worked well for me at least.

Assuming you have installed an IDE ZIP (not a parallel port or USB
one), and say you have installed it on the secondary ide interface of
the second controller, then it will show up as hdd4 (older models) or
simply as hdd. Now make a symbolic link to the zip drive,
cd /dev
ln -s hdd4 zip
And tell your system that it needs the ide-floppy driver for the zip,
add the line
alias /dev/zip ide-floppy
to your modules.conf (Oops, that might be conf.modules in redhat 6.2),
and do
depmod -a
and then try to mount it somewhere with the mount command.

Thanks for taking the time to comment; it's driving me bonkers. :)
As an aside, I wonder how the X folks got Neomagic to help. Based on the
developer's comments:
http://www.uglx.org/sony.html
Neomagic seems somewhat less than enthusiastic about Linux hacking:
I want to re-emphasize that the driver was written without any support
or assistance from NeoMagic. If you run into problems with the driver,
there is no point in asking them or your laptop manufacturer about
it--they don't give a rat's ass about problems with some hacked-up
Linux driver.
>That was for the vid chips, not sound, but maybe
>their sound chips have there own probe problems.
Actually you might be onto something with this. At this same site there
are comments about possible conflicts with the video:
http://www.uglx.org/sony-nm256av-notes.html
In part:
Since the soundcard and the video display share memory, this can lead
to some exciting times at the A-OK Corral. If the X server happens to
want to use the same chunk of video memory as the audio device, lots
of nasty noise (and perhaps a light-and-video show) will result, most
frequently while moving windows around.
etc.
Although this excerpt doesn't directly mention boot hangs, it certainly
doesn't sound like getting off to a good start is in the cards either.

POD's could also be formed by broken network cards, in which case

Well, in a non-switched network, they still can, just by causing
electrical trouble.
At least I used to have a card that, since a storm, would collapse
any 10-base-t network you put it in, I used it as an example in courses.

You Can Install on RedHat 7 with NetRAID-4M easily.
On RedHat 6.2,Installer doesn't detect NetRAID-4M,
but if you have much skill, you may install on RedHat6.2,
because the source code is distributed freely web site below:
You need to compile driver on another linux box,

Did you use md5sum to check the ISO file before burning? A correct
directory listing doesn't prove much about the integrity of the disc.

This is wrong. You must choose "Burn CD Image" from the File menu.

So i tried to install the alsa drivers for my soundcard (ensonique 128)
and it worked for a while, and then i did a kernel recompile to get scsi
elim working, and now im having a terribly hard time with the drivers.
basically ive stripped down my kernel so right now just the es1370.o is
the only sound driver, and its loaded as a module... however when i try
and do a
modprobe es1370 i get these errors:
/lib/modules/2.4.3/kernel/drivers/sound/es1370.o: init_module: No such
device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.3/kernel/drivers/sound/es1370.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.3/kernel/drivers/sound/es1370.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.3/kernel/drivers/sound/es1370.o: insmod es1370 failed
any idea as to why? all i want is my sound to work :-( what can i do!?!
thanks.

Put in the right driver. Perhaps you have an es1371 or 1373? Doesn't
alsa have drivers for this?

It's a known problem with certain of the nics and certain drivers. Upgrade
upgrade upgrade (or downgrade downgrade downgrade ... :-).
You should be able to get it going angain by rmmod, insmod, and restart
networking. About once a day should be enough.
