Was the card compiled as a module or into the kernel. If the file was
compiled as a module, then it needs to be placed into the /lib/modules/<kernel
number> directory hierarchy. After you have done your make, you do a make
modules and a make modules_install, don't you ?

I don't know if it is a winmodem, but try try www.linmodems.org. Some

Anyone know anything about these things? I'm going to have to write a
program to retrieve information from them, probably in Tcl/TK but I'm
willing to delve back into C if necessary to get some communication going.
Is there any documentation around on how to work with these things?

Thanks for any info

I have to compile this NIC into the kernel. no modules.
Today I tryed the 2.2.19 with 'make config' and there
I was asked if I want to compile 'EtherPower II' into
the kernel or as a module. I sayd yes and after compiling
there was the epic100 driver in the kernel. I couldn't
test this kernel today but I think I solved the problem.

There are a lot of conflicting documetns on this.
the best advice i could get was to get the latest ( and greatest) driver
from
http://www.opensource.creative.com
and compile it
this should work
it didnt for me
and it made a real mess of the volume gains in the mixer ( like the "wave
out" level made everything sound like aphex twin/nine inch

irrespective of other levels in the mixer)
but your mileage may vary as the saying goes.

After you install the new kernel; (ie: moving/copying the file
linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage
into your /boot directory along with SystemMap and adding the new file to
your /etc/lilo.conf)
You need to boot from the new kernel and then run "make modules
modules_install" to build the
new modules and install it for your new kernel.

your new modules will be installed in /lib/modules/"kernel version"

Check if there's a BIOS config entry for the amount of cached RAM
available and confirm that all of your 4GB are cached - that's what
I would do.

Wrong assumption, SCSI host adapters and SCSI disks are two different
things. Besides, Kudzu _doesn't_ identify any new disks, so how do you
actually know that they aren't detected? Have you tried partitioning,
formatting or mounting your disks? What's in your /proc/bus/scsi ?
If you have KDE installed, what does Control Center's SCSI Interface
Info tell?

Date: Wed, 9 May 2001 14:12:31 -0400

Hi!

I posted two questions regarding this drive but did only get one reply,
which unfortunately did not solve my problem. I had a problem with the
FIFO going down and breaking the writing process due to a SCSI error, even
in simulation mode.

The problem might have been that I installed the CD-RW as slave. I tried a
Plextor drive and it behaved exactly the same way until I changed it to
master. Now I don't have any problems and the buffer stays around 98-100%
full.

So those of you who get similar errors that I did with the ide-scsi
module, it might be worth trying to change it to master if you have it
currently as slave.

Hope this helps someone!

Regards,
        Iiro

The 10Mb uplink is configured with the default DHCP package that comes with

Greetings,

Today I encountered something out of my realm in the /var/log/messages file.
At first, I thought that our server was hacked and we were
experiencing a denial of service attack. However, once the server
started responding and having done a few checks of our trips it
didn't appear to be the case.

Then looking at the /var/log/messages file I saw some things
which I've never seen. Any guidance with respect to this
would be greatly appreciated.

Details: RH6.2 Linux with latest patches, 2 20GB IDE HD's, 512 MB RAM,
2 P3-800 CPUs, running primarily as a web server w/ 1.5 mill hits per month;
also running sendmail, MySQL, PostgreSQL, et cetera.

Thanks!

Actually, it's not that bad for Red Hat users. I've done a little
digging into arch/i386/kernel/pci-pc.c and found the following:

  * Red Hat added a patch to their 2.4.2 kernel which disables
"enhanced CPU to PCI posting" (whatever that is) for chips
with PCI device IDs of PCI_DEVICE_ID_VIA_82C691 and
    PCI_DEVICE_ID_VIA_82C598_1.

I appear to have the latter, because the message "PCI: Disabled
enhanced CPU to PCI posting #2" does appear in my syslog. (Note
that I have seen one IDE DMA timeout/IDE reset event, even with
    Red Hat's patch.)

  * This change is present in Linux 2.4.4.

  * Alan Cox's latest patch, however, removes this check, with a
comment that it seems "completely bogus".

So instead of clearing things up, my research has just confused me more.
I'm starting to seriously wonder if anyone, anywhere actually knows
what's going on with this situation.

I don't see any problems. (I'm running a system which isn't much better).
But to your problem with the hd: did you try to turn on the LBA-mode for
this drive? It's the only way to get over 512 MByte and it sounds that you
have this problem.

Ciao

I've searched high and low, and the answer is no.
Too nice a piece of hardware to let go of though.
