I've read accounts on various newsgroups of people being able to (or not
able to) get a Iomega zip disk connected through a swichbox. I have
been able to get my zip disk working fine w/ linux as long as I don't
use the switchbox. (If I do it hangs my machine when I attempt to
write to the zip disk.)

My system is a Suse 7.1 and the switchbox is one of the older models
with a "radio knob" on the front of it -- rather than the newer models
with a pushbutton. Specifically, it is a Belkin F1B028-E. I have
connected the switchport to the computer with a regular printer cable
and a "straight-through" switchbox cable.

Has anyone got any advice?

You know, I've got the ATI Xpert 2000, the Rage 128 plain vanilla. I had
this weird "flashy black" thing going on with the stock X install.
Especially prevelant when I used a scroll bar to quickly scroll up and down
a document page. Don't know if your problem is the same....mine was
repaired by installing the new cvs release from dri.sourceforge.net.

The screen just flickers and doesn't settle on a higher res. I think the problem is
that 1024x768 is the highest res of the LCD. Windows uses a 'virtual' desktop on
higher resolutions. So I guess it's not an error.

I have an Asus GeForce2 MX and AFAIK, you have to download the nVidia drivers from
nVidia themselves. They
are closed source drivers so they don't come with Linux Distributions. There is
however an 'open' driver
written, I believe, by XFree called 'nv' and this is what normally comes with
distributions. This is a poor
driver in comparison with nVidia's.

The answer in short is that you'll have to download the drivers from nVidia. But
that's not such a bad thing
becuase they
are *great*.

My SbLive doesn't respond for "recording reqeust" in Linux 2.4.0-2.4.4

If I try to record audio, nothing happens, all apps hang.
I tried "cat /dev/dsp", which should put some output on
the console - but nada - not a single byte - not even "0x0"s

Maybe this broke in 2.4.0pre or even later, but I know this worked before,
2.2 was _sure_ okay.

Oh- btw. audio playback works fine, mixing too (playback settings and recording
settings,
altough I can't recod - I can set from which source i want (not) to record ...)

I use the standard (OSS compatile) sound driver, compiled in (_NOT_ as module, NOT
ALSA...)

Read the ifconfig and route man pages. Also, read the Linux Net-3 HOWTO.
www.linuxdoc.org.

You will want to do something like "ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.1 netmask
255.255.255.0 up" followed by an appropriate route command.

>Problem 3: May 21 08:34:42 localhost netfs: Mounting other filesystems:

do a "cat /proc/filesystems". Is vfat or msdos listed? If so, you should be
able to mount your windows partition with mount -t vfat /dev/hdax
/mnt/windows. If not, you need to recompile your kernel with vfat support.

Basically, you need to have a look at www.linuxdoc.org. There's plenty of
HOWTOs there.

Good luck, if you run into more problems, feel free to ask with detailed
descriptions (what are you trying to do, what are the error messages).

 See:
http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.2/trident.4.html

I recommend you try 3.3.6 and see if it works. If it doesn't work, it's probably worth
buying a new video card because a 1mb ram ISA Trident card is very very antiquated and
is probably barely able to run X-Windows at a reasonable speed.

At least the Mandrake support people thought of suggesting 3.3.6 :)
