My system locks up when I try to scan with my Scanjet 4c connected to an
Adaptech scsi card using the aha152x driver. I am running RH 7.0 with the
2.4.5 kernel. I still have a monolithic 2.2.x kernel with the driver
compiled in that works just fine. The first time that I try and run xsane
or xscanimage, the device isn't found. The second time it is found and the
application starts. I get part way through a preview scan and the system
locks up. I have read at least one other posting that relates the same
problem, but no solutions have been suggested. Sure would be nice to be
able to scan with a 2.4.x series kernel running!

As usual a howto may be of help.
the Multi-Disk-Howto at www.linuxdoc.org covers multiple disks and
partitions, but also has much info on partitioning in general.
BTW I prefer cfdisk for this job.

there most certainly are a lot of strange and flakey bugs in most Java
support groups. Then, there is the problem that when you call XYZCo's
helpdesk, on the first go-around you may be talking to someone who made the
career move from a telemarketing boiler room last week....

Sorry I didn't provide the details,
I installed Red Hat 7.0 for my colleague, he need to work out an old Pentium 133 PC
This a very special 'industrial realtime comtrol" ( with Big chips from "ALi" GPIBs
SCSIs,,,,),
VGA onboard and NIC on board.
But for some season, we just can't remove the parts to 'see' the onboard NIC.

Actually this is an X question.
Does XFree86 support this card?
It appears that the answer depends on which chip set this video card uses.

Subject: advansys SMP problems
Hi All,
Help!
I have a dual PIII-600 (MSI MS-6120, V1.9 bios)
with a Megaraid and an Advansys (ConnectCom) 3940u2w
card.
I can boot perfectly under "linux.up" (single processor
kernel). But, when I boot up with the dual kernel ("linux"),
boot will slow to a crawl as the Advansys drive crashes it was
through two time outs per bus address. Needless to say,
anything on the 3940u2w does not work after it FINALLY boots up.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks,

Are the lm_sensor modules now intrinsic to the v2.4.x kernel or is this a
patch applied to the kernel distributed by RedHat?
Thank you.

Bad, bad eth1. You haven't assigned eth1 a host IP address; you've
assigned it the network address.
Given 10.0.0.0, netmask 255.0.0.0, IP 10.0.0.0 names the network,
10.255.255.255 is the broadcast IP address, and 10.0.0.1 through
10.255.255.254 are the host IP addresses.

I had refreshed my kernel to support such transfer. I used also a 80-pin cable.
I made another test with 521Kb block size, but there was no difference with
a 1024Kb block size.

Subject: udma??
Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2001 00:35:21 -0700
Hello All:
I just purchased a computer with an onboard UDMA controller 33/66/100 AMR P6ISA-II
with a 40G HD. I am new to Linux and I think this is a hardware problem so please
excuse
my question if this is off topic for this newsgroup.
When I try to install RH 6.1 from the installation disc ( syslinux 1.45. )
I get this error:
An error occurred reading the partition table for the block device hda: The error was
no such file or directory.
and sometimes it says:
The error was success.
The next error screen says
An error has occurred no valid devices were found on which to create new filesystem.
Please check your hardware for the cause of the problem.
I have noticed that kernels 2.?? can read onboard udma. If the installation disc says
syslinux 1.45 is that kernel version 1.45?
Should I upgrade to RH 7.1 which would have a more current kernel version which may be
able to use udma?
Many Thanks
Craig

Ok. I'm not running your version of linux, but I am running the 2.4.5 kernel (and am
using the same setup as when I was running the
2.4.4 kernel). The sound works on my bt878 card (but it's not wintv, its an ati
card)..
anyway, I use this in my modules.conf:
# TV
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
pre-install bttv modprobe -k msp3400; modprobe -k tuner
options bttv radio=1
options tuner type=5
which is slightly different than yours. I assume all of the silly stuff (like making
sure the audio out line on your tv tuner card
is connected to the line in on your sound card, your sound card line volume is turned
up...).
I just looked at your other components... this is getting wierd... I also use an
emu10k soundblaster live card, and use the tulip
driver for ethernet.....
anyway I use the sound driver from www.opensource.creative.com for sound, but it seems
that everything looks ok. Do you get
anything at all? Is the pop a loud pop? Do you get hiss or noise from the audio out
jack when you turn up the volume (in software)
and turn up the volume on your speakers?
