Do you get any errors in advance of the lockup? My suspicion is that my problem is down to 3rd and subsequent Promise cards not being properly initialised by the BIOS, and your problem is due to, err, something else! I'm toying with trying to go back to kernel 2.6.9, or at least the sata stuff from that version (if I can figure out how to do this) and some reading around suggests the bad things started at about 2.6.10 Thoughts?
