Oh, well, it started from me, so.

Locate is nice, and it would have found hwclock indeed, but 
the database should be up-to-date. Many home users don't run it.
I didn't know if James did, and thus did not mention it.

Peter's find command would not have found hwclock as written,
but that's irrelevant.

Apropos is the same as man -k.

This thread is way too long by now.
