HBH>> 1. Redhat 6.0 got this X font server (XFS) - what is it and why do I HBH>> need it? can I use it with True Type fonts from Windows? It is a font server. You need it if you want font server a bit more functional and flexible than one inside XFree. There are patches that bring TTF support to XFS, but I'm not sure if they are applied in RH6 version. Read the docs. HBH>> 2. IF the X font server from Previous question is not for using with HBH>> true type fonts - what is the best and EASIEST solution to use true type HBH>> fonts with Linux? Linux fonts that comes with X are horrible (and I'm xfstt. It is good. I use it. It is better than xfs patches for two reason: 1. You haven't to build mock X font definitions for TTF fonts, which in fact do not need one 2. You get fonts automatically named as they were in TTF 3. It handles charsets much more cleanly HBH>> very polite here), and it's impossible to use if you try to read web I use Times and Courier and is very happy. If you want to read sites that use some fonts like Arial, Verdana, or worse, you have two choices - install required fonts or just disallow page-defined fonts in your config. I always do the second. For two reasons: first, even with those fonts you have many chances page will be broken, since the dumbhead designers who did that also like to pixel-align their pages for their own display, and if your font renders a bit different under your system, you get broken page. Second: I *do not* like the idea of some stranger telling me what font I should use on my computer. I like Times, I read with Times, period. And his "design ideas" he can use on his relatives, if he hates them so much. So, install xfstt and disable page-defined fonts :) You are twice safe now :) -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] \/ There shall be counsels taken Stanislav Malyshev /\ Stronger than Morgul-spells phone +972-3-9316425 /\ JRRT LotR. http://sharat.co.il/frodo/ whois:!SM8333 ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
