But what he meant is the demo scene, in the golden age of BBSes people coded programs that show good graphics (and sometimes sound), and call it demos. It started by 4k com files that can run on 8086 and showed cute 3d-tunnel effects and such by changing the pallette, and has become 5Mb .exe files that include music, and show a 3d movie of spaceships.
