Lilo comes with a script called QuickInst. You should find it somewhere
on your disk (probably at /usr/doc/lilo). I use Debian, not RedHat, so
I don't know. I am almost sure that RedHat has an even smarter configuration
script. Isn't lilo mentioned anywhere on RedHat's config stuff (e.g.
linuxconf)?
The better, but longer, way, is to read lilo's excelent documentation,
which should be at /usr/doc/lilo, and then write your own lilo.conf.

NEVER! a bad linux installation is almost always fixable by hand. This is
not windows! If you have specific questions (like this one about lilo),
you should read the relevant docs, not reinstall.

If all this doesn't help, I (as many others, probably) can send you
my lilo.conf, which you will (obviously) have to change for your needs.
