Hi people, I have a SCSI controller. A PCI card, recognized as: Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c8xx: at PCI bus 0, device 9, function 0 Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c8xx: 53c875J detected with Symbios NVRAM Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: rev=0x04, base=0xeb001000, io_port=0xe800, irq=11 Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: Symbios format NVRAM, ID 7, Fast-20, Parity Checking Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: initial SCNTL3/DMODE/DCNTL/CTEST3/4/5 = (hex) 05/4e/80/01/00/24 Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: final SCNTL3/DMODE/DCNTL/CTEST3/4/5 = (hex) 05/46/a0/00/08/24 Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: on-chip RAM at 0xeb000000 Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: resetting, command processing suspended for 2 seconds Dec 29 00:52:26 dreamland kernel: ncr53c875J-0: restart (scsi reset). Changing /etc/conf.modules to "alias scsi_hostadapter sym53c8xx" didn't help. 2. trying to burn cd's using xcdroast (or any other) gives me: "no generic scsi support has been detected", but: lsmod : Module Size Used by ppp_deflate 40548 0 (autoclean) bsd_comp 3632 0 (autoclean) ppp 20012 2 (autoclean) [ppp_deflate bsd_comp] slhc 4328 1 (autoclean) [ppp] sg 15052 0 (autoclean) (unused) tdfx 45448 2 nls_iso8859-1 2020 1 (autoclean) nls_cp437 3548 1 (autoclean) vfat 9180 1 (autoclean) fat 30464 1 (autoclean) [vfat] opl3 11208 1 sb 33620 1 uart401 5968 1 [sb] sound 57240 0 [opl3 sb uart401] soundlow 300 0 [sound] soundcore 2372 6 [sb sound] ncr53c8xx 52264 0 (unused) "ls /proc/scsi/" gives : ncr53c8xx scsi "ls /proc/scsi/ncr53c8xx/" gives : 0 a look in /var/log/messages : Dec 29 00:57:00 dreamland modprobe: can't locate module block-major-11 modprobe -c : alias block-major-11 sr_mod I do have all the sr* 11 * devices. compiling the scsi drivers (sg + ncr53c8xx or sym53c8xx) into the kernel (not modules) didn't help. What's wrong ? Any help will be appriciated.
