only as root:
1. setterm -dump <number of vt>
2. If you need the colors, you can dump (e.g. with cat, or dd) the contents
of /dev/vcsa<num>, and get with each char it's attributes. Maybe one day
I'll (or someone else?) write something that translates that to ANSI color
escape sequences...
