For a free software solution (as opposed to Qmail + something), try
out Listar. I find it to be very good, and it runs perfectly with Exim
(a free MTA).
There's also Mailman, which has a web interface that your users might
like. It all depends on the purpose of the mailing list and the kind
of users it will have of course.

mutt is a text-based client; this is a huge advantage for me, as I tend
to type emails, not click them
