the linux kernel knows how to read and write to vfat partitions and how
to read ntfs partitions. man mount(1) for how to do it. you can also add
the windows partitions to your /etc/fstab to automate mounting them.
(for example, i use this line in my /etc/fstab)
/dev/hda5 /d vfat noauto 0 0
so a simple 'mount /d' is enough.
