Well, I've been in the demo scene but long time ago (Assembler programming on Atari ST and Amiga direct to individual chips)...
If you want to write your demos on Linux - you better use SDL as it's pretty good and stable to write demos and games with it - or else you're in for a heavy learning of Linux internals...
