Thanks Hetz, and to the other people who recommended that I switch to a beta version of licq. Indeed the stable version of licq (1.0.3, the version also in the latest distributions such as Redhat 7.2) is by now utterly unusable as it barely ever manages to send messages, but the beta version works. Switching to an unstable beta version (1.1.0) from licq.org (I had to compile it myself) fixed all my problems, and ICQ works well now. It uses a different protocol now, and needs different holes poked in the firewall than the old protocol (this protocol uses TCP, to port 5190). Of course, this version is _really_ unstable - send URL doesn't work (I don't know why), and for some recepients LICQ just crashes when I try to send them a message (I think it has something to do with Hebrew - I didn't spend too much time on trying to understand it). But overall, it's much better than the old version, and I have already been able to hold a 3 hour conversation without it crashing (why anyone would want to spend 3 hours typing when you can just pick up a phone is a different issue ;)). -- Nadav Har'El | Monday, Dec 24 2001, 9 Tevet 5762 [EMAIL PROTECTED] |----------------------------------------- Phone: +972-53-245868, ICQ 13349191 |If at first you don't succeed, skydiving http://nadav.harel.org.il |is not for you. ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
