well, no news in that ofcourse :) as for latency on ADSL, it's a bit slower than ISDN since there IS a network cloud and not a clean packet switch between you and the ISP. I get 55 ms on average from me to Actcom, but the bandwidth and the new bandwidth discovery algorithems of Linux 2.4 compensate nicely. I get my daily dist-upgrade at 200KB/sec from the US. > BTW: another conclusion of this article which is probably relevant for > the ADSL versus Cable TV Internet connection dispute is: won't know until it gets here, because the cloud configurations of Bezeq and the cable companies are not clear, plus different areas may have different qualities of coverage, so the question of "ADSL or CABLE" may be a question of which neighbourhood you are in, and what ISP you are using. If you are in Haifa, you may want ActCom, in East Raanana and KfarSaba you most probably want Israserve. On cables you HAVE no choice, you share the line with the rest of Israel, bottlenecked by your neighbourhood Cable hub. On ADSL, you choose an ISP with more free BW, but you get bottlenecked by the Bezeq switch-to-switch BW - the further away, the more painful. on some hours of the day I get 5-10KB/sec from IGLU, 4 hops away from me. -- (@- Please do NOT cc: me answers posted also to the list //\ Send me private mail at <YourName (at) ira.abramov.org> v_/_ to send me spam please use: cat spam.txt > /dev/hda ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
